Yep, just like others have said, make sure you have the latest drivers for all your devices.

What Operating System are you running? If you're using XP, try typing in ' dxdiag' at the Run prompt and checking to see if your video and sound card drivers are certified and if there are no problems.

Is there a particular application or instance in which the problem always happens? That might also help to know with diagnosing it. You could also try logging on with Admin priveledges and checking the 'services' tool in the admin tools section and seeing if any device driver failed to initialize.
