You should really make an effort to understand them. I too was wondering what the markings on the tires mean. All I knew back then was they all fir on a certain size rim and the 195 or 205 meant the width of the tire.

A good start is Tire Rack's Tire Tech and the first thing that you should familiarrize yourself with is this page on Tire Rack's site.
