You're going to want to powerwash the entire car first, including the engine bay. A clean car always seems to run better. After that do all the usual tune up stuff like spark plugs and wires, distributor, brake pads, drain and refill coolant, throw some injector cleaner in your tank, 165 degree thermostat, stock replacement struts and 2 new tires for the front. All this except for the tires can be done in your driveway and it's pretty easy beginner stuff. Your car should be running pretty smooth after that.
