Start by obviously, checking for coolant leaks. Then, drain your coolant completely, and put a new thermostat in. refill the coolant. Big thing that people forget or don't know to do, is bleed the cooling system. leave the radiator cap off, run the car with the heat on full blast, adding coolant as needed until the cooling fan kicks on. Then toss the radiator cap on and you'll be good. If it's still overheating, get a waterpump
