Integras are great... very reliable, good chassis, good motor, etc. It sounds like you have a good plan and I would highly recommend a DA on a limited budget - it's pretty much the same car as a '94-01. However, I would stay away from the auto to manual swap and just find a good manual DA, even though that's hard to do. The auto to manual swap is a pretty big pain in the ass when half of the Integras out there are already manuals. Just my $.02.
