found the problem! where the clutch makes contact with the clutch switch and presses it in, there is a round disk. mine has disintegrated all over the floor board, so now the switch just goes through the hole thats left and is never actuated. unfortunately for me, i cant just go buy that piece. it's one of those "have to buy the whole assembly" type deals, and like i said, between new axles and a new baby, i'm strapped. im trying some creative solutions, but the location of the hole is not making it easy. it's next to impossible to get to. thought about pulling the clip off the back of the switch and bridging the connectors inside the clip till i have time to rip the whole clutch assembly out. there are only two wires to the clip, so im assuming (since it is a "switch') that one is power in and the other power out. anyone else have this part break? anyone know what it's called, other than mystery disk? has anyone else tried to bypass the clutch switch like this?
