Just to prove some point, here's the total number of Vibe and Matrix sold by 2007.
Pontiac Vibe retail 10,676
Toyota Matrix retail 16,284
There you go, I omit the fleet sales, Toyota one ups Pontiac. I don't really care much for Pontiac, but Subaru means a little something in the Japanese auto scene, a blip but still something. The heated rivalry with Mitsubishi, the everything AWD (not all though, but the perception is there), the wacky styling, the everything that made Subaru... Subaru. I wonder why Subaru agreed with this project from the start. Even more so... Why the heck Subaru let Toyota bought their shares?
