so true. sounds like me and my ex. we dated for 3 years and met at a restaurant. i'm a firm believer that everybody should wait tables some time in their youth. it'll teach you people skills and how do deal with any kind of social situation. You'll also appreciate what's like to actually work for your money and not be one of those cheapasses who goes to an upscale casual restaurant with 25 of your friends and run up a 500 dollar bill just to leave the person who did all the work for you a 7 dollar tip. so many people think they are "giving away free money" to their server. but no you're paying for the quality of service. i always tip between 18-20% no matter where i go unless the service was horrible.
