It's not a test of speed as much as a test of reliability and fuel range. but if anything was to be learned from the first season, not always do the most favorable team win because so much more goes into it but clearly the teams that are grosly disadvantaged *cough* lambo (last season) are obviously not serious contenders. That's what makes the show interesting......
