Question need of guidance

hey i have a 98 ex d16y8 SOHC
i want to supercharge it with a JRSC. what do you guys think.

Would it be worth it?

what hp number would i be putting to the wheels?

what all will i need?

or is there another kit i should go with instead of JR ?

i mAKe 143whp/120wtq on my setup. expect to buy the JR, then 100 to get a conversion harness to obd1, 100 for a p28, 80 to chip the ecu, then about 150 per hour@1-2 hours of dynotuning. plus the cost of labor to install JR if you dont do it.

going to OBD1 and chipping the ECU is not recommended unless you know what you're doing and have a good tuner. If you're new to supercharging, stick with the stock JR kit and read the stickies for more information.

Get the kit, and make sure theres enough fuel getting to the engine. After market fuel pump and maybe some injectors i don't know if the d16 ones will cut it, but they probably will. Don't mess with the boost and it'll do the Job. Slap it in, the stock computer will sense more air and add fuel (which is why you need the fuel pump), and you can always take your time later to tune it. PUT IT IN!!!

If you do it yourself it shouldn't cost more than 2500-3000

JR kit for single cam=$2k. he doesnt need injectors, just FMU. he can't 'mess' with the boost without serious pulley changing. the stock computer will not sense the extra air, hence the FMU is needed. he doesnt have to have a bigger fuel pump either. and you cant take your time and tune it either. its done right or it isnt. and seeing as how he is even asking these questions, he isnt a tuner, and has no idea how to tune. so him tuning the car later is not an option.

the first 2 posts were lots of accurate info, dont whore up the thread with misguiding information.

The acurate info is the stock injectors suck when teamed up with a fmu trust me I have had both the stock 240cc and fmu and 450cc and a chipped ecu. The 240 and FMU went from extremely rich at mid RPM to lean at high rpms.

The stock injectors are fine. It's the stock fuel pump that cannot deliver the fuel requirements to the engine under heavy boost. I ran 8 PSI + a 35 dry shot of NOS on the stock injectors without any problems. Of course, the JR FMU sucks and I had upgraded the the cartech FMU, which I also recommend along with a Walbro High Flow 255 lph fuel pump.

WOW someones anal. I guess i should've said "Don't 'mess' with the pulleys, use the ones they give you!" Everything you need comes with the kit, including a fuel management unit! Didn't know that the FMU is solely responsible for the increase in fuel flow. But the kit does not include a fuel pump which is highly recommended. Otherwise it will lean out. Sure the FMU will want to send more fuel, but the stock pumps cant deliver it. Or not for long anyways.

And it'll put a grin on your face with or without proper tuning.

tuning has 0% to do with bolt ons.

the $2k kit comes w/ everything you will need. the instructions suck. you may need to space the top of the alternator back to keep everything lined up. you will also want to put your car on a dyno and set the adjustable fuel pressure regulator my car was lean at the stock setting.

btw, i'm making 160 whp on my 97 ex.

james.
p.s. one of my friends has a sohc kit w/ 10lb pulley for sale.
