HI I just bought a 1998 Civic si coupe from a guy. It had the d16y8 engine, with a JR supercharger. He said it has the high boost pulley on it, and is pushing 8psi. Before he sold it to me he had 440 injectors along with a stand alone computer. he removed the computer, and 440 injectors replacing them back with the standard d16y8 injectors. The car also has the the JR boost timer. Here are my problems.
1. the belt squeals like crazy during start up, and now during gear down as well. I have tried tightening by using the bolt, but the tensioner pulley just isn't going down far enough, what should I do?
2. Under hard acceleration, the coolant is being pushed out through the cap of the plastic overflow coolant bottle and the car begins to overheat. it did so last night , and after allowing it to cool down, then start the engine the temperature guage stayed at " C" then back up to normal, then back down to "c" but never overheating. today everyting seems to be back to normal, no overheating tem gauge working fine, headgasket seems to be intact, good acceleration. This coolant push happens whenever i drive the car hard, and at times even when i don't there is a faint trickle of coolant by the overflow bottle cap. Does anyone have an idea why this happens?
Also both idler pulleys move....one has the handy screw the other doesnt you have to actually loosen and move it by hand... if that doesnt work then you have too big of a belt.

98' SI with a D16? you got something wrong there. anyway, have you checked if your thermostat is working properly? i'd flush the rad and check the stat then go from there.

yeah this is in the island of Barbados, Caribbean. most of our cars come directly from japan. dealer sold it as a 1998, i relaise though that in the US it appears to be a 1997.

D16y8 engine
I was thinking that perhaps, beacuse i have the setup for high boost, but the injectors were changed back to the standard ones, and the computer removed that under acceleration it might cause the engine to overheat? I recently changed the thermostat, same problem. I had to change the radiator top tank because a pin prick size hole appeared in it. I got the radiator flushed the same time

not trying on purpose to get off topic, but does anyone know of why jdm put d16 engine in that year model si? just curious. hell i didnt even know they made an all wheel drive wagon till tonight.
if he removed the computer and the injectors, and youre still boosting, i'd say it isnt getting enough fuel. very lean combustion chambers will lead to overheating, and detonation. start solving #2 by getting a FMU or adjustable fuel pressure regulator, and then getting a dynotune. if you dont do that very soon, say bye bye to your motor.
for #1, try a smaller belt.

well first off from experience the stock Honda cpu is great with modifications except for when it becomes a boosted motor.....anyways i would get a new coolant cap or o ring for the cap to stop leaking, BUT it might be leaking because there a pressure release system so it my be doing the correct thing... so just try and replace the cap..... also regarding the belts its a supercharger so it my just be whiny

hahah sry to confuse you... a simpler version of what i said is there is a purge system that releases pressure, but the coolant cap may just not seal the tank that great, therefore I would just get a new cap. As for the supercharger, I think its just whiny...
im a turbo person personally but he said belt whine did he not? what i mean is that the Honda ECU does a great job managing the motor except when the motor has a turbo of supercharger on it. make sense?
