supercharger or turbo??/

Like the title says, which one should I get. I'm saving up (so far I've got $650) but i haven't decided which one should i get. I was talking to this guy and he told me supercharger is way better than turbo and it'll last longer, he told me it'd be a little bit more expensive but worth it. What should i save up for?? : :

A turbo can be just as reliable, if you build it right. but if you do it wrong, it could be the worst thing to do to your engine. I would say, do your research on both of the subjects and decide for yourself.

the following is what i have read. i don't have any experience because i don't have either a supercharger or turbo....yet.

SUPERCHARGER
*advantage*
- no turbo lag
- instant boost
- almost maintence free (only need to check belt and oil leakage)
- more torque upgrades in lower rpm range
- no time wasted to warm and cool down
- JRSC = 50 state legal

*disvantage*
- low boost
- cannot upgrade as high as turbo
- no intercooler
- no blow off valve (if you're into that thing)
- not many brand and models to choose from
- uses power from the engine to run the supercharger

TURBO
*advantage*
- parts everywhere!!!!!
- you can custom build any set up you want
- more boost
- intercooler
- blow off valve
- many turbos have improved on lag problems with design techniques
- free power! - using exhaust, not belt

*disadvantage*
- turbo lag
- need to wait for turbo to speed up before gainning boost
- once you let off the gas to shift, blow off valve goes off and you have refill the pipes with pressurize air before power can be gained
- depending on set up, due to the lag, not really meant for street driving
- have to let turbo cool when stopping the car
- a lot of piping for air and oil
- they get really HOT
- most of the power and torque gains are in the upper rpm range
- many custom set up are not state legal

I may have missed a few points or said a few things wrong
feel free to correct me if you wish to do so.

as for me, i'm going for a JRSC with 6 psi.
i found one for 1700 and i'm going to see if he still has it for sale.
the reason why i'm going for this set up over a turbo is because...
- smog legal (yepee especially since i'm in CA)
- my engine can handle 6 psi with little mods
- low maintence
- a lot easier to install

wow very impressive. to cut it short, my version
sc- good from start 0-60's /den nuttin from der
tb-slow start/ good for top end
mostly if u want the get go power get sc, if u want the topend major power den turbo, both are rather long lasting, it all depends on ur motor and how well its built and stuff like that.

Technically speaking, SC's do have IC's/AF's for them. Its just the JRSC unit that doesn't have one, although there are new ones out there for it. Same thing goes for the blow off valve. More and more brands are being offered nowadays, compared to the days when JR was the only unit.

i'll probably just go w/ the turbo then. i was talking to my friend (he has a 2GT Eclipse w/ turbo) and he told me i could put a turbo from an eclipse in my car w/ little work. Is this true??

No, not entirely true. You can put a turbo from an Eclipse into your car with a lot of work.

well, i think you can put a mits. turbo in your civic.
it's basically building your own custom turbo and i have seen people do this using other turbos.

the turbo itself is independent from the car.
if i recall correctly, there are no electroinics connected from the turbo the engine.
you bascially have the exhaust flow turning the turbine inside the turbo and that is how you get your boost.

the idea is rather simple, but you'll find the most problems installing a mist. turbo with pipes and brackets etc.
however, that goes for most turbos out there since the civic wasn't meant to be turbo charged.

you can put the mist. turbo in your car, but note that it will probably have some limitations on the amount of boost you can put on it.

i didn't know about that.
cool... looks like there are some more options out therer for superchargers these days.

i always think of JR as the standard when I think about SC.

millions and millions and millions of your money.
it's a waste for you to buy it.
it would be better if you put it in a fund and send it to ME!
haha

now on a serious note:
check out the sticky topics here.
they're really helpful and will tell you everything you need to know.

if you get everything new with professional labor.... it will be 3-4 plus thousand for the JRSC.

jackson racing is a good foundation but far from the best... in my opinion now that ive got everybodys attention, MY procharger unit was just as easy to rig as a turbo yet needs less connections and way less attention, it also runs silent and you can allways substitute one of there superchargers with a bigger one for higher yield engines also do to the fact that they also use an intercooler all the nice gadgets that turbo owners use <aka Nter Coolers and wrapped tubing> you can use as well its al up too what you take the time to check out and use. Next back too say a jackson racing unit you can get different pullys and what not to push hella air into your engine. There is a ton of parts available it just takes more originol thinking than going too google and typing honda and turbo and expecting packages to pop up by the thousands cause imports for whatever reason love turbos. Im not gonna get into the arguement at the moment cause it takes way too much space. So figure out what you intend to do with your car street strip or what? Also different engines perform way differently than each other with the same conditions applied. Stick to the basics build the motor with money your saving than later on when your good and ready with ALL the info at hand do what you think is best its your car man do it too it
