Supercharging Opinions
I have a 1999 civic DX (d16y7) that I am planning on supercharging with a new system I am developing. Before I do however, I figured I could inquire some specs from the people who know alot about these engines and tell me this stuff right off the top of their head. The plan was to shoot for 7.5 psi on a stock d16y7. This might possibly be too much? That's where you come in. I'd like to know some of your opinions on how to keep this engine as STOCK as possible, while running 7.5 psi. If you could maybe list some specs on rod strengths, injector sizes, etc. And list some things I will have to upgrade. The supercharger I am going to use is similar to the Eaton M45.

Thanks!!

I dont claim to be a D-Series guy, but I figured Ill chime in since nobody else has yet.
Id recommend about 6psi on a bone stock D16, but im sure 7.5 would hold if the tune was good. If it has to last a long time, you might want to lower the compression a bit- a thicker head gasket is the easiest way to do this. The internals of the engine will be fine for that amount of power. Youll want to upgrade your fuel pump (Walbro 255lph will work well), and some larger injectors (anything from 310cc to 440cc should cut it).

If 7.5 is too much then I can drop to 6, but I was trying to see my limits on a stock D16. It doesn't have to last long, but thanks for the heads up on the gasket. I assumed a bigger fuel pump and injectors, but wasn't sure what and I wasn't sure if the rods would hold up as well, being such a small engine. Thanks for the info.

I hope you know the JRSC already uses the M45 for the D-series kit right? Might as well get a kit from them instead of having to put your own together.
Tune it and it will run fine without problems at 6, 7, or 8psi. You can't manually turn down the boost as its determined by the pulley you use. So unless someone makes a larger pulley to run 0.5psi or 1psi, you are stuck on the psi that you get.
It would suck to have to change just for that little of a psi anyways.

Yes, but its only for experimental purposes, until I get this thing in production. Then I'll have it for a lot more applications as I try it on different motors.

The way I am running this setup, if 7.5 seems to be a little much, then I will be able to adjust the psi. I can't go into more detail than that. Being able to tune it without problems in that range is what I was looking for. Thanks.

How much of a problem is it to have 100k miles on the engine?

Well if you are going to do it as an experience, then why does mileage matter?
And if you are serious about making a SC kit and producing it, I'd stay away from the eaton blowers. Use something better that has a whole lot more efficientcy please.

I mentioned in an earlier post that the supercharger I am going to use was similar to the eaton. I only said that just in case it affected the questions I asked previously about the stock d16y7. Also I didn't know if there was any kind of issues with this engine with 100k miles on it, which would effect performance. Thanks for the input though.

if you don't understand mileage and it's affects on a motor than don't even touch a s/c. mileage is a number. comp and leakdown tests tell you the condition. you can have a .100K motor in better condition than 30K motor. it's all in the tune, build quality, maintanence and knowledge.

If you want to consider that chiming in, thats your business. I consider chiming in as offering helpful advice.
And no, I didnt see your single sentence reply.
