Converting miniDV to jpeg

i have a canon optura 20 mini dv camcorder and i want to be able to put video into MPEG form. You can only convert 10 seconds at a time though. I want to be able to make vids and stuff and be able to edit them, host them on the internet, and maybe make dvd'd with my dvd burner. So ten seconds reallly isnt jack.

what are my options? I figured i'd post in the camera's forum, but if it belongs elsewhere, mods please move it.

you have to purchase a firewire card and usb cable..it runs for about $80 CDN so probably about $50 US..go to an electronic store and i'm sure one of their employees can give you a little more details

for $120 USDM i got a dedicated card, and pinnacle studio and you can take the whole tape and upload it to the comp, edit, add FX slo-mo, music, etc and then save in any format..

I ended up getting an Adaptec 3 port FireWire CardBus kit for my laptop. It ran me 85 bucks at CompUSA, but then i found it on ebay for $50 w/ buy it now. SO hopefully that will work. Now all I need is a really good editing program. I'll see how the one that came w/ my dvd burner works though.
