Good camera around the $250 range.

Im looking to get a more mobile , take with you anywhere , toss it in the glove compartment kinda deal or easily into a bag.

Around the $250 range. For the sonys Ive narrowed it down to the sony w100. Seems pretty good all around but im wondering what else is out there.

Rather than spend a week researching and a lot of these places are not so good with comparison reviews or the up to date cameras around so Id thought Id ask here.

I also want something with video capability. Ive looked at a few canons and they had good 640X480 30fps video too , which is something im also looking for.

Thanks.

for compact digital, id say canon SD series. takes great pics for a p&s and very compact to take anywhere. put it in your pocket, etc ...

or if you want some manual functions, the canon A540 is also a good cheap choice. slightly bigger than SD series though.

What about the new Canon powershot a640 / canon powershot a710 is / Canon powershot G7?

Also the SD is that the smaller series, I saw those those are probably too small.

yea, SD series is there ultra compact ones. my cousin has the SD700IS. very nice camera...

those 3 you listed are all good camera. G7 though is biggest, not really a compact type of camera. A700 has the IS which is nice to have while the A640 has the swivel LCD which is also good to have lol. Cant go wrong with either one, just whether IS or swivel LCD is more important to you. Check it out at the stores and see if the size is good

Cool. Yeah I saw the g7 has 1024X768 video at 15fps , it looked pretty wild!!!

Pretty much hd video in a camera...wow , cant wait to see what kinda stuff comes out next and the samples were all pretty similiar with each other.

Itll probably be price that decides and perhaps i will get the a640 , but we will see.

Make sure you look at dpreview.com if you already haven't. It's been a while since I have looked into the P&S cameras but I know in general picking stuff is a big hassle with so much out there. Each will have a strength and weakness. Figure out what you want in a camera and find one that does that/those things best. And more MP does not mean it's better, just bigger haha. Good luck.

Ive been purchasing digital cameras when they first came out long time ago when some of them where actually writing files to floppy disk and there were no readily available memory sticks / cards. So yeah. I know about the megapixel thing. Megapixel is nothing if its all too noisey and so forth. Ive been building superhonda through the use of digital cameras almost half my life. So its all good , love em , live em.

Ive owned pretty much all of sonys top of the line cameras. Theyve all served me well.

Anyhow went with the w100. Was the best all around for me. Has good video , fast enough response , good noise , good size , probably one of the highest amount of photos can be taken with it , 360 per charge /w lcd on. As well the 8mp helped me go with that , larger cant be a bad thing.

As well it of course has a infolithium battery. All the other canons were alkaline and I dispise those so much.

Ive taken some photos with it and they are pretty damn good. Very happy with it. Also can macro up nicely as well.

Ill post some photos soon.

Here they are.

Its pretty amazing what a small camera can do in comparison to my slr. This is all hand held too and the light is pretty accurate , no color changes needed. I give it an A+. Video is also pretty good will be showing some of that soon.
