Do you want to keep it whole, or you just bought a fryer and want to grill it?
If you want to keep it whole I would say don't grill it, smoke it. putsome charcoal in the very bottom of the grill, go buy some hardwood chips. get the charcoal started and let the flames go out, in the meantime have the hardwood chips soaking in hot water. After that drain the chips and place in a pan or bowl you won't mind getting ruined and place over the charcoal. put the grill on and place chicke on that. close the lid and let it go. You want to make sure the flames die down, you don't want too much heat to build up and overcook the chicken. cooking right around 150 degrees should be plenty.

If you just want to grill the chicken and it doesn't matter what it looks like, cut the whole thing down the breastbone and butterfly it. Place on hot grill and smother in your choice of BBQ sauce, or not.
