type-r HID in USDM headlamps, please advise...

So, I'm keeping the front end USDM. I do however, want HID's. I don't want a non-functional pile of crap though (doesn't belong on an ITR!!!). Anyone install the cheap plug'n play kits ($70 on ebay)? How about the $300 plug'n play kits? How does the light look in the stock headlamps? I've seen a couple of really good DIY - step by step processes of installing either Audi A4 or Nissan Maxima lenses inside of the oem integra headlamps. It involves cutting and re-sealing the headlamp (. It's supposed to look way better (completely stock). Anyone do any of these options? I don't want to hack anything on my R, or install junk.

FYI: I used the search feature and it gave me no results for HID, even in this forum where there is a post about HID on the first page. I swear I'm not "R"etarded.

Thanks!

most HID kits are crap. OE HID parts can't be beat by aftermarket.
most of my friends have done a retrofit by now b/c their pnp ballasts stopped working (longest one lasted 4 years), but my sister's 2000 tl ballast is still running (bulbs have colorshifted to a pinkish color and needs to be replaced tho). so, it seems OE ballasts (hella, philips, denso) lasts longer than aftermarket (ebay or otherwise). my ballasts (third gen hella) are from a first gen audi rs6 so they are a minimum of 4 years old and still running. plus, if you get a third gen hella ballast and it fails later down the road, there are some people who have tricks on repairing them. and ordering name brand bulbs (osram, philips) with a reputation of reliability and perfomance and knowing they will fit is a plus.

Here's the DIY walkthroughs that I was referring to. Looks somewhat simple. I want to go to a wrecking yard and find me a nice lightly rolled German car to molest.

For yummy lighting:

Audi A6 lights -

Nissan E55 Maxima
