ITR is ringing like a bell.

At a constant speed and with the engine up to temp, my 2000 ITR
has a tinkling sound---like a small bell---or some thing lose with a
ringing sound.--In the past I have seen questions about this but nobody had the solution just theories. Anyone out there has found the cause or solution? I have tried a search with no luck!

Thats a pretty hard thing to diagnose with Just your description.

What mileage do you have and whens the last Valve adjustment that was done?

Ive had this problem with me twice with two seperate cars. It may not be your problem but tis easy to check.... The intermeditate shaft has a metal dust cover mounted on it..... its come off in the past with cars that Ive worked on and is quite noticable..... ust look under the car and see if you see a donut looking thing lingering on your intermediate shaft

1Greyteg-------the car has 20K on it and the valves were done about 5K ago. The sound only can be heard when the car is up to
temp and has been there for about a year.
kinghawk-------What is the intermediate shaft? Is it one of the
driveshafts? AndyC.

the intermediate shaft is a shaft that helps extend one of the drive shafts so that the would be of equel length...... it comes out of your transmission and mates with the drive shaft

Thanks kinghawk--I got under the car took one look and would have bet big money that was the problem--but the dust seal on the shaft is on tight. It even sounds right when I pinged it--so I will try it again when hot. AndyC

hmmmmm the only thing i could think of that would make that sound would be valve clearances.... but i dont know exactly what would make that noise coz if it were the valve clearances you would lose power too
