Pretty Simple, Go to your local Dept of Motor Vehicles. Since you did not say where you are it would be very hard to guess.
I JUST TALKED WITH THE DMV. THEY TOLD ME TO CONTACT THE ORIGINAL OWNER, WHO IMPORTED THE CAR TO THE USA. BUT THE GUY WHO IS SELLING IT RIGHT NOW, HE DON'T HAVE THE ORIGINAL OWNERS INFORMATIONS ANYMORE.
They wouldnt need the orig owners info. They would need the persons info that imported it to verify what it went thru for safety stuff when it came into the docks.
Unless the title was never signed to the person you are buying it from, which in that case it is not legal and will not be registered

this makes it different enough for it to be required to go through crash testing and emissions.
For crash testing... be prepared to submit 3 of them to be crashed into scrap...
After that... and you pass emissions with car #4.... then you can legally title and sell car #4.
This is why the imported skylines are so expencive.... they had to crash over a dozen of em.. (more than 1 specific model that they import.... 3 per specific model... etc)
The easier method is to find someone with the same chassis as a parts car...
buy the title off the parts car... do a little VIN swapping (on the dash)... and claim yours is a JDM conversion...... (as in.. originally a USA car... converted to RHD and converted to look totally JDM)
This works in some states... a couple del sol guys had to do it.
Even then, they mentioned getting insurance on it was a bitch....
On the other hand... the RHD trans-top del sol was definately F'n cool....
Mods: JDM ITR FE conversion. All-motor goodies. Hondata system.
I have looked into doing this myself. My DMV told me to bring as much paper work on the car as possible, the Japanese title, and you'll need to make sure their aren't any leins on the car from Japan.
As far as safety testing... this is what Motorex was doing with Skylines. However, they are under the magnifying glass now and will probably be shut down. Stay away from them.

You might not like this idea.........but buy a beatup U.S. integra of the same color and run the plate on the ITR. I don't know where the serial numbers are on Integra's, but if there on the dash, that could be swapped over etc. I don't want to get you in any trouble, but you get what I'm saying......

Mods: H22A and ECU, exedy clutch, CAI/H/E..some extras sitting in the garage and on the car, i'll keep u posted. 18" White Racing Harts. Type S seat covers and airfreshner and Ashtray!! Saving up for a lot of parts. Rebuilding whole L-side of car except door, headlights, bushings and suspension.
you're not gonna have to buy 3 itr's and smash them into a wall. Just go down to the dmv, and be nice and try to convince them to let u talk to someone who knows wtf they're talking about.
I'm sure other people have done crash tests on rhd itr's and not every person needs to go thru the same process, i'm sure you can site other peoples crash test reports on the car for it to pass inspection. Other than that, find out the specfic parts on the car you'd have to switch over to make it legal in the us. You could put a USDM ECU on it and that should help with emissions.
I dunno specifics and there are some good articles on this in a bunch of car magazines. I just don't remember. Super Street I'm sure.
It's just a little tedious, whatever you do to make the car comply in the us u can always switch back when the car passes.
Ask the same question in the law enforcement forum i'm sure somone will know.

Yeah, while you're at it, go rob a bank and say you didn't do it. Your idea is very illegal. And if you get pulled over, goodluck is all I have to say.
this sounds like a major pain in the ass, and I guess I'm thinking twice about buying a rhd that isn't already registered in the states...conversions are the way to go I suppose...

So, If I get a car and a jdm front clip and do a rhd conversion, Will it be easier to register it? Like, could I register the car like usual but with a rhd conversion? I work at a body shop and I really want to do a rhd conversion.

If you were to get a jdm front clip to do the conversion I believe there wouldn't be much trouble with that...but seeing how I haven't actually done it myself or know of anyone who has I can't give you an exact answer...but I know that it wouldn't be as big of a pain in the ass as buying an actual rhd vehicle...I'm guessing that you could just put the vin numbers of your usdm front end on the jdm clip, but again I don't know much about the legality of that...but a lot of ppl do conversions that way so it can't be hard to get it registered...it's just a mod...
