first oil change today, hope mpg improves a bit
My dealer gave me three "free" oil changes when I got my Fit, so even though the oil indicator still showed 70%, I decided to use one of the freebies today. I'll see if the milage will improve a bit, I've driven almost 2800 miles so far, hope that was enough of a break in period for things to settle. I'm getting an average of 27.65mpg with some spirited driving, 70% highway (always 10-15 over the limit ) 30% city driving, and A/C on 60% of the time. I did get 30.32mpg once, but that's still a bit off from the 31-37mpg on the sticker (Sport auto). My 99'Civic (manual tranny) was rated 32-37mpg, but I could usually get an average of 35mpg, once even getting 38mpg with spirited driving. Gotta try to kep out of VTEC range if I want to save fuel

crap...
something must be going very right with my 97' civic dx hatch...
closing in on 300,000 miles...
check engine light has been on for the last 3 years, gutted cat, corroded-to-the-brink-of-falling-off catback exhaust, not maintaining a regular oil change/maintenance schedule, and driving in moderate traffic on my 45-60 minute commute 40 miles one way...
getting 37 miles per gallon!!!
wtf???
things should be very wrong, but my gas mileage is surely going right!

I got 30 mpg the first time, and that's just city.
Since then, gotten 37 hwy and 26 and recently 23 mpg city.
It sucks.
I've got about 1800 miles on my car.

I'm doing a little test, changing my driving habits to see if I get better milage. So far it is working. Usually I'd get 50-60 miles on 1/4 tank, but this time I got 109 miles! We will see how it goes at fill up time. I also purchased a ScanGauge II to monitor the fuel consumption. I really dislike driving slow, but I gotta make some kind of compromise between driving the way I really like, and slow as molasses as I'm doing now for the test

Like I said, I had three freebies to use, and changing oil is not something that will hurt the car - if done properly, and with the right oil that is. I'm taking the Fit to the dealer to have them check it for the low milage that I'm getting. After a week of driving really slowly, avoiding VTEC as much as possible, and keeping a highway top sepeed of 60mph, my could only get 31mpg. I hated that way of driving, it's not possible that the only way to get the sticker mpg is to drive even slower than I already did.

i dont know if it would have any relation to it but i know a while back, perhaps 6 months ago or so, i remember the E.P.A was in hot water
because almost all of their estimated ratings were higher than what
most cars in reality actually saw. they might have adjusted their ratings
by now or something but im not quite sure. just thought i would add in
that bit of information

its a new engine and the dealer usues shitty oil IMO. bring in mobil1 full synthetic(30 bucks for 5 qt). use this after about 15,000 on the normal oil, after that use synthetic.
put boltons onto the car as in a nice intake a catback and a header(it wont void waraty anything before the throttle body is 100% legal)
I dont see why your geting such shitty MPG, in my 2000 ex with boltons and ac and ps out im geting 35city and 40 higway and I drive 90 on the higway if not faster.

I too, have been disheartened by my mileage. Of course I only have 984mi, so far: - 25.8mpg (all city, AC all the time). (It's 113 dgs, right now.)
I got this info from http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/findacar.htm .
Perhaps this will help put our expectations into perspective. The first numbers are from the sticker, the second numbers are from the new for 2008 government stickers, and the last numbers are the average from what 43 other '07 Fit owners report. If you want to see what other cars are, go to that site and try it out. It will help you better deal with your numbers, because we are still driving one of the most fuel efficient rides for the money.

ya when i bought the fit i firmly believed i was gonna get at least 35mpg but after almost 3 months i only seem to see 31-33 mpg and thats mostly highway driving which i call bullshit upon. I drive civilized also so it makes no god damn sense.

try can keep your rpm below 1700 while accelerating from a dead stop.
don't floor it to change lanes, be patient.
drive slightly above the speed limit to make it downshift then slow back to speed limit(i'm talking about slow city speed limits) so you are driving about 30mph in 4th/5th.
the most fuel friendly speed is about 48mph.
don't use the ac.
don't lower your windows.
check your tire pressure - inflate to about 35psi if you can stand the harshness.
remove all unnecessary crap from your car.
