It's new to the US market, but that doesn't mean it's not established...it's been in production for a few years in Japan. And Honda as a rule is one of the companies you can trust a new model, unlike most others you have to give it a couple years to work the bugs out. I think it's a cool little car that is affordable. Have you watched the Tuner Challenge on Speed Channel? Skunk2 is doing up a Fit.

i be driving the older relative of teh Yaris. And I would gladly buy a Yaris hatch or sedanS. Sure the fit has a better suspension package from the factory, but it's old. when was the last time they changed the look of the Fit?

Toyota = boring. It's not that important if the Fit hasn't been redesigned lately, it's new to the US market so it's not played out over here. If you're all about promoting the Yaris, perhaps you should be posting on SuperToyota instead of SuperHonda...

My issue with the Yaris is the relative uncomfortableness of the interior. So it holds junk in 20+ compartments. So what, when the interior is so small, the passanger is giving road head to the driver when they are just attempting to buckle their seatbelt. Its way to tiny. The Fit has a much roomier feel, including the 7 cu ft of cargo room with the seats folded down. On top of that, the Fit will be supremely more upgradable with the aftermarket industry. Fit bitch slaps the Yaris, hands down!

how so? The yaris isn't very different to the Fit. Since, afterall, the yaris is the same thing as the Vitz (the only difference between them is that the Yaris we now have here is the newest generation of Yaris/Vitz). Just because the vitz wasn't in the US market doesn't mean it wasn't a good car and just as upgradeable as the Fit. PLUS, my good man, the fit again hasn't changed in like 5 years...however the 2007 yaris/vitz is a completely new design, of course it won't have the same support right now...what new car does?
Hell my echo is probably just as well off as the Fit. Sure they don't make parts specifically for the Echo, but I can take almost any performance part from a Scion xA or Scion xB and strap it on. Due to the fact that the Scion x series are built on the same chassis and use the same engine.
I don't support toyota over honda or vice versa. My first love is the Honda Accord cd5 and I would love nothing more than to have that or a Prelude over my Echo. But if I were to decide between a Fit or a yaris..hands down I would get a yaris. other than that the fit is a decent car.

perhaps you should stop getting butthurt over me throwing out my opinion into the open.
like i said though, this isn't a fight between which is better. Toyota and Honda are both great car companies. I just like the bubble over the breadbox.

I was thinking of selling my EG and buying a Fit quiet recently, but then I remembered that I was broke.
Anyway, it all comes down to what you're going to be using this vehicle for; the fit and the yaris are competing for the same thing. There are tons of aftermarket stuff for both the Fit and the Yaris. But I don't know yet on what this vehicle will be used for, do you have any intentions of modifying this car at all? If not, which appeals to you more; that you can fold down almost every seat in the car (Fit) or that there are 20+ compartments to place your odds and ends (yaris)? As you can see above; Photo Boy has made it possible to view the specs of each car side by side. If however, you can't make up your mind, I would go out and test drive each of them.
Your original question was, should you buy a car that hasn't yet established itself in the US market yet, I don't really know what you mean by that, and what does that really have to do with you buying the car or not? Import Tuner Magazine just came out with their premiere issue of Siphon (micro-compact automotive culture) and if I'm not mistaken there is a Honda Fit on the Cover. I think that says something. Good luck.

Hey man, since you're looking more for opinions on Fits then looking to buy a Fit immediately, I'm going to move this one over.
