AEM Short Ram Intake
This was for my 1998 Honda Accord EX Sedan 4cyl:
I purchased the Chrome style AEM Ram Air Intake for my 98 Honda Accord EX 4cyl. I'm going for the basic I/H/E setup to get better gas mileage. I currently have a Tsudo Cat-Back Fireball Exhaust system and the AEM RAI. I have seen about a 20 more miles per tank increase.
My exaust system is fairly loud so you can only hear the intake when you start climbing a hill or acclerate moderatly. It makes that little whistling sound. Also the engine now goes "WHAAAA" instead of "VRMMMMM" when you get on it, if you know what i mean... lol
The HP increses are probibly minimal. I noticed a small difference but remember its just a pipe and a filter.
When I was installing my intake i also removed the resonator (witch is not required). This will allow some more air to travel into the engine bay near the filter so cooler air will enter.
Installation was fairly easy. Took me about 3 hrs (because i removed the resonator witch requires removing the front bumper). I would say that I work fairly slow because i'm very careful about damaging anything else.
Also to get better gas mileage reset your ECU while installing this. First you disconnect the battery (both terminals). Then remove the Hazard fuse located in the engine bay area. When you are done installing the intake, replace the fuse and connect the battery. Then start the car and let it IDLE for 10 minutes. This will reconfigure your cars Air/Fuel ratios. Don't touch the gas while its doing that. Then shut it off and start back up, your ready to go!
Strengths:
-Looks nice in the engine bay
-Gives a few more HP
-Remove the resonator for cooler air
-Cool whistle while accel. (had friends think it was a turbo...lol)
-Sounds like a racing motor when you floor it!
-Better than generic (you get all parts, a few extras, specially coated inside pipe for better airflow, and High Quality AEM lubed filter
-Get all I/H/E for max gasmileage/HP
Weaknesses:
-May have to scoot the battery over to make room for the big filter
-Sometimes requires bending/relocating an A/C line that is in the way (I just put a nice rubber pad around it and set the intake on top)

nice write up!
I do have a short-ram intake, but i think it's necessary to have the A/C pipe line seal/protected, other wise, it rattles like crazy on my car.
thanks for the ECU reset. didn't know that part. mind if you PM me for further more details? thanks!
Word, in my 5g3n accord, it's great, sounds stock, till you stomp! i don't need the higher end power, i'm not racing, but for passing cars, and "spirited" driving it's absolutely perfect!

i put a breather filter on my short ram and it sounds like a cricket is in my hood when i gas it...i think its the breather filter vibrating off my hood though...sounds good at wide open throttle

I've got the polished Red AEM intake and it's awesome.
noticed a small increase in acceleration in the higher band of RPMs.
at idle it sounds like theres a vacuum cleaner under my hood and when you stomp the gas you get a nice sucking sound (for lack of better words haha)
I also have the AEM SRI and I like it alot. I like the sound of it also. I don't know about the hissing sound but mine makes a loud humming sound when the car is warmed up. :clap
