Comptech Ice Box - B Series
Car: 1998 Acura Integra GS (LSVTEC)
Part: Comptech Ice Box w/ Comptech Hi-Flow Filter
Install time: 30mins to 1hr
Cost: $225 shipped
Source: Acura of Escondido, California (Ebay)
I gotta say, having had the AEM short ram and cold air, this was a different take on intakes for me. It was a pretty straight forward install and it came with all the necessary brackets to make sure the box doesn't play around inside the bay. The coupler that came with it was great too because it had room to stretch and move so the intake arm could move around freely without taking the box with it. The pipe under the box that led down into the bumper was pretty sizeable. It had to be at least a 3" diameter with a flared opening. The filter came with a connector elbow to connect to the intake arm, as well as the oiling spray and instructions for cleaning and re-oiling. I used a cheapo intake arm that i cut short to substitute the extra 200 i'd have to pay for the actual Comptech intake arm. Everything fit like a glove and the only real concern i have is that one of the AC lines is touching the tube under the box, but it should be ok since the box is solid onto the frame and there is padding around the line.
As for the gains, NICE! Far better in the low to mid range than the AEM SRI and a bit more potent than the AEM CAI. It's also hard ABS plastic so it will repel heat better than your average metal pipe. It also gives you the advantages of the cold air without hydrolocking. Best of all, it looks stock and it silences that annoying intake whistling sound.
Highly recommended

very throaty. it's like a muffled short ram sound, but VTEC is still nice and audible. exactly what i was going for
i'm phasing out of the loud obnoxious stage and going into the sneaky power stage, so this stock looking, functional, and quieter than a short ram intake part was exactly what i wanted.

x2.
I got my icebox and comptech intake arm for $130 shipped for both, but they are used. Id like to see how it looks in the bay, as mine is for my B18C1, and my B18B is still in my car.

I've got a comptech icebox in my car as well. They are quality pieces and I wouldn't hesitate to buy one again. The setup is definately louder than stock (but not annoying), but not nearly as loud as a short ram.

I liked the fact that your car is less likely to hydrolock with that system. I was looking to get it one day. I'm more confident now hearing these reviews.

taking the cover off would defeat the purpose of having the box.
