Comptech's Icebox
Why is it that no other company has tried to copy Comptech Sport's icebox? I don't own one, but have always wanted one. The reason is why put the fllter down below when water can get sucked up. I mean why even make a intake like that, when Comptech was smart enough to keep the filter safe and dry from wet conditions. I love that they were smart enough to put a pipe to draw cold air instead of putting the filter where water can soak it.
Ok, so AEM has the bypass move. BUT IT DOESNT COME STANDARD That's bullshit. If AEM knows water is going to get sucked up and we have to buy the valve, why can't it already be installed. I have a AEM CAI on my teg. It's great, but Comptech's icebox looks slicker, safer, and way more common sense. I ALMOST had a deja vu yesterday in the rain. It hardly rains in the central valley, Cali. I had a experience with hydrolocking with my Iceman intake. A freak accident when a main road was flooded and immediately i was screwed. A CHP (Cali highway patrol) pushed me to a gas station.
And now Comptech has gone out of business. Why in the hell can't these aftermarket companies get smart wth their Cold air Intakes (CAI).
Thanks for listening. Had to vent all that out. Hope one of you or somebody reinvents the CAI (for wet weather).

I definitely share your enthusiasm on Comptech's Icebox. Innovative design that uses an OEM idea and makes it much better and more efficient. I myself had an AEM CAI with a bypass valve because of fears of hydrolocking in the rain in my Eclipse GST. Funny thing about it is that instead of hydrolocking the valve got dry rotted or something and ended up getting sucked through my throttle body and into two of cylinders creating one hell of a headache. I currently have a TSX and I definitely am in the market for an Icebox.
By the way, I have good news for all of you. In case you haven't heard, Comptech is NOT out of business. Seems that a couple of it's employees have bought the company and have revived it. The website is currently under construction and should be up and running soon.
I also agree that Comptech is unique from the rest, BUT similar to Mugen. I agree with all the comments above but my only perk is the aluminum pipe that follows the airbox (PLEASE forgive me if I am wrong, I am a TOTAL newbie when it comes to Honda/Acura parts).
Why in the world would you want an aluminum pipe after a cold air intake box? To me, it defeats the purpose of the "cold" air coming into the engine. Why not leave the stock plastic/rubber intake pipe that buffers heat better? Heat transfer is extremely higher in aluminum than in plastic/rubber. This is why I am really debating buying one. If only Mugen wasn't oh so expensive...

man, i was thinking the same exact thing! its such an obvious design and it is also obvious that people like it so why havn't more companies done it, or at least something similar?? oh, and to people out there who dont like aluminum pipes, just get some heat wrap and that takes care of the heat soak! it doesn't look the best, but it solves a problem!
