Review of AEM short ram intake...'92 accord

I bought the AEM short ram intake form Nopi for my '92 lx Accord, my first mod since getting the car a few weeks ago. I decided on the short ram instead of the cold air system for a few reasons. For one, it was cheaper and im poor. Two, easier and quicker to install. Three, I live in an area that is somewhat prone to flooding during heavey rainfall, and the thought of having my airfilter 6 inches off the ground made me nervous.

It cost about $112, like $120 with shipping. Install was quick and easy, for start to finish the whole job was like 30-40 mintues. AEM gives you every piece you need, down to the breather hose extension and all nessesary hardware....its a nice complete kit. However the instuctions were almost useless, I think they may have sent me directions for a different car or something...because it said to do things like drain a gallon of coolant and disconnect the coolant hose from the throttle body, etc...things that were completely unnessesary. So I basically discarded them and winged it. Besides, you should be able to put on an intake yourself without much instruction...its pretty straightfoward.

My only gripe is that the new intake pipe relocates a hole for a vacuum line that passes over the top of the throttle body, and in the new location the original vacuum line wont reach. So I have to go to the auto parts store and buy some longer vacuum tubing so it will reach, no biggie.

As far as performance, throttle response is improved across the band. Not much of a noticeable power increase until you get around 4k rpm, then you feel a little more pull than normal till about 6k. If you want to feel it more in the midrange, go for the cold air intake instead. A nice pronounced growl also.

All in all, im happy with the kit. It was simple to install and the hardware is nice and solid, all made in usa. Its definately worth paying a little more for a quality kit like one of these, instead of buying some $40 autozone intake that wont fit right or come with crappy hardware.
