you basically can run the MSD 6 units and retard controls on any Honda motor, D, B, H, and F series. and most of the coils too.
hookup is pretty easy.

yeah i've read about the 7 series stuff, really nice but most of it is too much for me. the 6 series stuff is the best for a tighter budget. 6A, 6AL, SCI, Digital 6+ and some other misc. MSD items are good for a normal budget, for a street car.

oh yead BTW are you coming over here this w/e or next?
i remember Jeff saying something about that.

true but most people on here don't need all of the functions on the 7. the 6 will suit most needs

i think you can get it for $125-150 new. the SCI is a bit more.
SS coil is about $40-50, cap is roughly $30 and the Digi 6+ is about $300.

SCI

The sci says 6al on it......
if a stock SCI is a 6al unit shouldn't it have soft touch built in?
can i use a retard unit with it?

the SCI is basically the newer version of the 6A unit. the 6A comes also in a 6AL version which includes the soft-touch revlimiter. the SCI can also come with the revlimiter option.

you can use the SCI or 6A units with a standard retard unit, or the Digial 6+ which has most of those features built in already.
if you have the SCI or 6A and need to retard timing under boost or during N2O injection, then you can add different MSD units without any trouble. in most cases you need the main MSD ignition unit (SCI or 6A) in order to add the retard unit.

retard switch

May someone explain how the retarding device works?I mean,do you have to manually retard the timing before spraying or does it engages at full throttle (or anyway when nitrous is activated) ?

Do you have to already have a diferent ignition system or it can be connected to stock ignition? If running with less timing than required is it dangerous or is it more safe?

normally, and in the case of the MSD units, you need to run an ignition box in order to use the retard box. or you can get the Digital 6+ which has most of the features combined into one unit.

the retard controls are usually via pills or a knob to dial it in. the pills are preset so you just plug in the amount of degrees you want. then when you inject N2O and hit WOT the unit gets the signal to retard the determined amount of degrees. they're pretty easy to use.

or you can use the distributor to retard ignition timing. but this can weaken N/A performance depending on the setup.
