Ebay's take on the "Mugen Chip"
I've never used one and here's why....
all the chip is really programmed to do is to disable the o2 sensor, advances timing just a bit, and make the car think it's running cold. they are never really dyno tuned. you will get a slight gain...but not anything close to the 20hp they claim sometimes. however, w/ that slight gain, you also loose a lot of gas mileage. more so than you would if you got that horsepower from somewhere else.
overall, these chips suck and should be avoided

some of them are actually programmed to run a bit lean, therefore can cause damage to the engine.
they keep the coined phrase "leaner is meaner" in mind when making the program...but go to far sometimes..

yes!!! so basically they're doing a program that has NOT been dyno tuned and tested!!! so beware, folks!

the best ecu modification you can do for your car is a programmable standalone like aem or hondata or apexi.

Yeah a lot of them have higher redlines, extra fuel getting dumped, tougher maps. Some are ok...but a lot, if not most of them also disable the knock sensor....its disabled anyways above a certain rpm on a stock ecu I believe.
This makes for h22's to not stumble or hesitate as a lot of them do at the lower rpms , but at the cost of being able to blow the motor. Allthough a lot say it only happens at higher rpms and since its disabled then its almost pointless for honda to even use....
This is kinda something I wouldnt mind having...but again just shows how these chips just set everything towards power. Not safety or reliability.
Also not tuned for your vehicle either and you are most likely not actually buying a mugen rom or map. Allthough some places that do have there stuff together say they have places that list almost all the roms. Leave it to japan to rip off tuners maps and place them online or have them traded about. Which is where im sure the errors or misrepresented maps get handed out, beucase these maps are basically bootleged.
Only good thing they are cheap...I would try it. But I dont want to risk any problems.

uberdata.... Even if hondata were alot cheaper, I find it a little more complex to use.

hmm.. i have one of those chips, but i don't know if it's the same one you guys are talking about. mine is connected to this sensor that's supposed to go into the intake manifold. i got it for free to test it out to see if i like it. it "piggy backs" off the ecu they say. ah.. what is it..? i feel the gains, but is it safe?

it's not really 20 horses and that's not the one i got. the one i got was custom built by my shop. i just posted it because it somewhat resembles what the chip i got does. my friend says i'm ok because i'm still running stock fuel map. he said if i were to change out cams or do any swaps or anything, i'd have to have it retuned and use an SAFC or VAFC. ahhh.. i don't know who to believe.. i do feel the tq difference on the lower end though..

Hy, unfortunetely some "bad" reprogramers do such things in the map of the cars. But itīs hard to disable the O2 sensor by simple programming, itīs possible to do it using some disasembler, and however it will demand to much time to make it work fine.
All major chips that are on the market, called "RESISTOR CHIP" is a mass. You can do it alone trying some resistor to increase time injection and just a little advance time. Of course this resistor chip wonīt be able to make more 20 HP gain (itīs impossible !).Than you have problems with mileage etc.
If you get some REAL and SERIOUS work, your mileage in normal condition will not be affected, you can give some advance to use more peak of pressure in the cilinder without give it more gas. Otherwise in the high charges of the acelerator you can give more gas to make higher power including adavance as well. Unfortunetly the original program has some interests "mistakes", due to the quality of the gas, noking etc.
In another hand with a good work you can change the timing point of the VTEC, and get more horsepower, giving more time to charge the cilinder.
The best test ever still road test, dyno itīs good to prove to the customer the real power that you get.
A real and good work you can get from HONDATA, itīs the best honda manager chip (and what i call the only that makes a REAL and logical changes to the maps, without disable any sensor).
Best Regards

to be ohnest, just get a freaking AFC and have it tuned, u wanna pull power then do it this way, or if u have more money then go get hondata s100 or something....... but i had pulled 10-12h.p. across the power band on the dyno just tuning with the afc on my d15b7!!!!!!! in all seriousness do it....

is it really advisable to get that if you don't know what you're doing? what if you set an air/fuel curve wrong somewhere and it detonates your engine?
can't you just buy an ecu modification/upgrade that you can slap in and leave it alone?
