well, just got it installed yesterday. I got the kenwood SIR1 kit off of ebay for about $70 shipped, plus they're running a deal right now that if you pay for 6 months upfront, you get a $50 rebate (only until 6/2005)
well, finding a place for the satellite reciever was kind of a pain, the supplied cord to hook it up to the actual cd player/reciever was only about 5 ft long, if that (it was your basic cd changer cable, not sure what its called). after i found a nice, hidden spot for the reciever, got the cables wired/plugged in and hidden, and everything put back together, i went inside to activate it.
activation was easy, and fairly immediate. took less than 5 minutes for the broadcast to come through to me after i activated it. It costs $10 to activate online, and $15 for you to call them on the phone to activate it.
as for the sound quality, i'm still not sure of. i live in the midwest, so getting reception is no problem (since sirius runs three satellites to Xm's 2 satellites). but the sound seems kind of muddy to me, compared to hearing my dad's XM radio in his gmc sierra. although i think it may be where the cables are ran (near the tranny tunnel/shifter) that may be interfering somewhat.
it may be since it's a new toy for me, but i find myself wanting to drive around just to listen to the radio.. i kind of wished i got the portable one, so i could take it with me inside, or wherever, but i may do that with the one we get my wife (she wants it now too)
overall,
ease of installation 1-5 (1 being easiest): 2, if you have a [satellite] ready receiver
sound quality: 3 for now (5 being best) its nowhere cd quality for me, more like 128 bit mp3 quality, muddy, but tolerable
price:~$100 for the kit, 22.95 for the first month, 12.95 each thereafter. or if you have two recievers, its only 13.95/month i can deal with the sound quality and price for the amount of content that i like.
content: there's pretty much something for everyone with either of the 2 satellite radio services.
if you don't listen to radio or music much, go ahead and skip this one.
overall,
