The paint cracked because of the bumper?

Sounds very strange to me? Unless the bumper is going to be flexing and needs to be very stiff.. but even that sounds off.

The paint shouldn't crack, peel, or any adherance problems if everything is done properly.

It almost sounds like the guy is throwing you a line so he can blame it on the bumper later on?

Cracking Bumper (Da!!!)

If the part is on the car and is sprayed with modern paint (Urathane) There should be no prob if prep is correct. If the
part is off the car and there is a lot of flexing going on be careful
it may crack and a flex agent which is a additive is should be mixed into the paint. Some times flex agent makes the paint
a shade off. Only slightly.

If its an aftermarket cheap a** bumper, then it will flex and crack. If you are sayin 68$ for the bumper, it sounds like it is definately aftermarket, which would imply cheap quality and a natural tendency to flex. The parts inherent flex would inevitably cause spider cracks and possibly chipping of paint.
