dumb question.....auto tranny fluid level?

Ok, this may sound dumb and I have tried to search, but can not find the answer to my question. I am trying to check my transmission fluid level but can't make heads or tails out of the markings on the dipstick. There are just a couple of X's on the end of the diptstick that look like this XXXX. How do I tell if my tranny fluid level is low or not?
