Fan comes on after I turn off ignition (car not hot)

I recently purchased an automatic 1991 Honda Accord LX 4dr.

On my car, whenever I have the ignition on, and turn it back off, the rad fan comes on. The car can be perfectly cold and the fan will still come on. If I turn the ignition back on, the fan shuts off. I found out from my local honda dealer that the older accords have a rad fan timer on them.

Has anyone else experienced a similar problem? Do you think it is the rad fan timer or a sensor on the rad? What sensors are there on the radiator to tell the rad fan timer to turn on/off?

Any help or information is appreciated,
Dan

I had a 91 Lx, the fan came on but only after the car was hot....or run real hard.
I dont think you have a serious problem or any problem.......other than maybe the extra noise?

The fan does come on if the car is hot, but my concern is the fact that it runs anytime the ignition is turned off. I am worried that the fan will be draining the battery.

Does anyone know what sensor there is to control the rad fan timer?

Thank-you for your posts
Dan

well when does the fan turn off??? THe civics to my knowledge dont have timers ( maybe the previous owner installed one) If its always on then I would start checking sensors or mickey mouse wiring somewhere.

kinghawk, the vehicle is a 1991 Honda Accord, not a civic
They do come OEM equipped with a rad fan timer.

I am trying to find out what sensors there are to control the rad fan.
