how to take apart 90-93 tail lights?

my 93 tails take on water, and have algae growing inside them. wet leaves and crap, i can only assume its algae from all the moisture.

i have heard that you need to put them in the oven or something? can anyone help me out with this? what do I need to do exactly?

i thought you needed to pry some tabs but its all stuck in glue or silicone so its immpossible to do, thats why i think i'll need to bake it to melt the glue.

what kind of adhesive and sealant do i need to reseal it and make sure its water tight?

finally the moisture has rusted out the lower bulb housings, so i'll need to replace them, those can be found at autozone right?

i would replace them with aftermarket or same ones from salvage yard because it sounds like a significant amount of water is getting in, or try drying them off with a heatgun or hairdryer and go from there, there is post from the stickies on how to open up the tails.
good luk.

yeah, I just tried the oven method, but its very difficult, its impossible for me to take it apart.

guess i'll have to shell out 80 to get a new set. I hate altezzas, but if the back isnt bright silver then it doesnt look that bad. I have a black car, and the black light housing would look ok I think.

is there a difference between the lights of the 2 door and 4 door?

i can only find 4 door lights on ebay but i have a coupe.

in the thread title you say 90-91 tails, but in the first sentence you say ''my 93 tails''.

the 90-91 coupe and sedan are the same.

the 92-93 coupe and sedan differ.

here are some pics:

you probably need to replace the foam gasket that goes between the body and tail light.

if you do need new tail lights, try to stay away from altezza's. they tend to be cheap. unless you like the way they look. you'd be better off getting the red/clears IMO.

thanks for the response.

my mistake on the years, i thought they would all be the same for the same gen, but i guess not.

the clear tails look sweet, but this is just a beater daily driver, and i dont want to waste money on anything besides maintenence. (if i didnt have to change the trunk then it would be worth it) I hope to get a used wrx or something by next year.

the foam gaskets are ratty, is the only place to get them at the dealer?

I bought a tube of silicone sealer and I put some one all around the lights where the glass is connected to the rear housing, so i hope this will solve or at least reduce the problem.

where can i find the light bulb socket that the blinker bulbs go into? mine have become corroded and the bulb wont even comeout easily, so i should swap it out.
