good morning! Just got a new Accord V6. my first Honda, what a GREAT car! I would like ANY and ALL advice on how to take care of it. i want this car to last forever.
the dealer said first oil change at 5000 miles. i thought to do the oil change at around 1,000 miles with mobil one synthetic. are there metal filings in the oil of a new engine?
please tell me ALL your hints to take car of this GREAT car!
thanks
2012?! 2dr? Post some pics man, those are really nice cars, wish I had the cash to build one.
The only metal shavings you should have are from te brake in time which is in the first 100 miles or however they brake then in from the factory. You shouldn't have to worry about any metal shavings. If you want to do the oil at 1000 or 5000 you'll be fine. I go every 3000 to 5000 synthetic royal purple
thanks! i want to really maintain this car, so it will live LONG after it is paid off! it is a 4 door, orchid (white) outside, tan inside. the white is a little metallic. LOTS of pep. V6. it is a 2012.
am thinking of doing Mobil one synthetic every 3000 miles. wife will do short trips of 3 miles, etc, i think that is hard on the engine. i will take every saturday, or every other, on the highway to totally warm up the oil and drive the water and gas out of the oil.
I think you would be good every 5000 on a Honda, the engines hold up great! I drive a 91 integra, building it from ground up now. Its under the forum check out my build.
Just keep your tires inflated correctly, I don't think you're going to need to take it on the highway to warm up the engine, I wouldn't. You'll be putting
More miles on it, and have the chance of getting dings from rocks ect.
A car bra if you're into it. Save your front bumper many dings lol
Yeah I wouldn't worry about driving it on the highway if it's not part of your daily activity. Hondas get up to temp pretty quickly. Just keep up with the oil changes, tune ups, and other dealer recommended maintenance on schedule, and it should last for a good long time. Good buy, btw. As Josh said, those are great looking rides. :btu
Nice. I would use torco or amsoil full synthetic if I were you. A good oil filter makes all the difference too. Make sure to keep an eye on the tranny fluid and do regular fluid changes to keep it healthy.

This is so important. Simply going from a orange shitbag fram filter to a good mobil1/ pureone purolator will reduce up to 70%a of engine wear.
Everyone rides on the synthetic band wagon, but few realize the importance of high efficiency filtration. If I were you I would get a transmission oil cooler and filter installed. One where you can use spin on oil filters. I would also look into changing the ATF out completely with a nice amsoil product or equivalent. Castrol has an awesome lube that was made for allison transmission its used in chevy duramaxx diesels(amsoil equivalent is called torque drive). If that is a compatible fluid, use it. There is nothing better. Its wear characteristics are insane. Make sure they completely drain the old atf out though if you don't do it yourself. Its hard to get all the fluid out, so learn that the systems total capacity is. That way when they put in said fluid you should know they did it right since there wont be any left over atf.
Yeah, I was reading up on oil filters and what ones to avoid. Once you see the inside of a fram one you realize it's just garbage. Cardboard end caps, paper media, lower number of pleats etc. :confused How can mechanics use this shit!? I'm getting a wix one tommorow. I know it's not as good as mobil 1 but anything is better then a fram one.
