problem with old carb accord

i have an 88 accord lx carbureted as sort of a side project other than my 94 accord lx coupe. i have been having problems with the engine though. seeing as i know nothing about carburetors i thought you guys might be able to help me.

besides ablown head gasket(which isn't that bad yet) it won't idle. its like there is some sort of switch under the pedal. the second you lift you foot and it goes under a grand it dies. it runs smooth and accelerates well above 1000rpm (considering the 200000 miles on the clock) so im not sure what it could be.

hopefully you guys can help. thanks

sounds like your air/fuel idle screws need to be adjusted. I haven't done one in a long time. There is usualy two screws, one for air the second is fuel. keep playing with the fuel, majority of the time that is the problem. Also check your fuel filter

well i did replace all the filers already. this isle thing happened all of the sudden. do carbs go out of wack that quick? it was doing the same thing (to a lesser degree) before the oil was replaced last. i don't drive this car its just something to spend my free time on so there is like 6 miles on this oil. however it seemed to all go to crap when my idiot cousin dumped this glue type substance into the engine that supposidly stops it from smoking. maybe just coincidence? i don't know.
