which honda had Continuously Variable Transmissions (CVT) back in 95? I don't remember any of them. i think the first tiptronic (way different than CVT) tranny came on the 98 prelude.

but i agree. every thread started by coach green has been epic FAIL. awesome example of PEBKAC.

Well excuse me for not being a gear head. excuse me for waiting till i was older to do something i always liked.
excuse me for coming to a message board where there a tons of people who are doing what i am trying to do to ask them a question because people have already done it.

but you know what..ill keep asking and someone will answer it. and then ill go from not knowing to knowing.

sometimes when you read shit out of a manual...its unclear to that person. someone times when someone is showed something it makes sense.

the thing is...if i am asking a question that is beneath you....and your too good to answer it. then dont waste your time...

fyi i went to a shop and the said tiptronic trans cant be done in my year of accord. thats a form of research isnt it? well what if i said ok thats cool and never asked..

you guys say it can be done but is a waste.

everything i found online says what a tiptronic trans is...i already know what it is i wanted to know if it could be done and if it is worth it.

nobody's blaming you for not being a gear head. we were all there once. what we are blaming you for is not using the search function to find the simplest answers. if you knew what tiptronic was, why not call it that? if you knew what it was, why would you want it?

a gearhead in his right mind will not try to do what you wanted to do because it's retarded.

or instead of learning from a forum do actual research by talking to a shop. you can use Google to find the answer to every question he has ever asked.

did you not just read what i said i did talk to a shop..they said it cant be done....i was looking up stuff at the same time i posted the question. hoping that i would find someone that had done it already.....the book tells you one thing experience is a different ball game.

i called it sport shifting because thats what they call it at the dealership. but this thread is proof that i do look at things elsewhere or else id be calling it triptronic like the first dude did. and to this point nobody is giving any information on it. and thats fine you either answer the question or you dont.

someone like me would get on here to ask someone like magnetic or wvu or morts questions wether or not i researched it or went to a shop...i like to get second third and fourth opinions if available.

but if you feel its a dumb question then just dont answer it. plain and simple

Are you just looking for a slapshift for an automatic with a manual valve body? That's what I have in my Datsun, and it's great for accelerating because you get quick, hard shifts. Here's what my shifter looks like:

You hit it away from you to upshift, and pull toward you to downshift. It's basically just a ratchet for your current shift mechanism (only for automatics). It really sucks for daily driving and real racing because downshifts really don't allow any kind of rev-matching. It's just a quick BANG and you're down a gear at whatever throttle position you were just in. That can be a huge problem, especially in a rwd car (your rear end tends to float out when you lock up the rear wheels).

If you ask me, I'd go with factory options, because Honda did a lot more research than we can hope to. If you know what you're trying to accomplish (and why) THEN you should start researching modifications. Don't slap an exhaust and intake on your car because you can. Increase your engine flow by putting an exhaust and intake on. Try to approach car upgrades from the other side.

this is crucial. people often forget the WHY is usually the most important part to building.

and coach green...instead of getting all butt sore and defensive just say "yeah, okay it won't happen again"

a dealership is not a shop.....you'll find out that in most cases the dealership has the worst people to work on your car. the dealerships usually have people who simply read and recite the company brochure to you. and i wasn't just saying you should talk to a shop just about this issue. i'm saying you need to have a consultation meeting to dicuss you're entire build

well nobodys getting sore all im saying is obviously i have been doing some reading because during the time of this whole post...i have learned more....because nobody here has really given much info...so to say that im not would be wrong....i just ask because you guys already know why wouldnt i want to ask.

second i spoke to a shop and asked if it could be done and they said flat out no. i looked onine after the shop. thinking why not....i figured if it is possible im sure someone here somewhre has done it. who better to ask than someone that has possible done it toeither thier car or a car they have worked on to get thier thoughts on the matter.....

but as far as info im always going to question something...and ill say what i heard from one place to someone else and see what answer i get. they call it a second and third opinion.
again....you dont have to answer the question or even respond to the post if you think its stupid.

Then here's your answer:

I'll fabricate a shift kit for you for $15k and mail it to you (buyer pays shipping). It will be a manual valve body ratcheting shifter combined with an automatic transmission. It will also accomplish nothing and be a waste of $15k.

Want one? I can make it in about 2 weeks.

He'll learn. As soon as he says "what all" though, I'm down for banning.
