vaccum gauge

im trying to install a vaccum gauge, i know that your suposed to splice into a vaccum hose, i used the one that conects to my cold air intake, the gauge only goes to 5 hg, this is just when im at idle i hear that it is suposed to go to 30 at idle and then go up to zero when i hit throttle, the gauge i have is the automoter vacc/boost gauge, it goes from 30 to 0 which is the vacc part and then from 0 to 30 which is the boost, is the vacc not going to 30 because the car is not moving or is it because i tapped into a bad location?
any help would be apreciated
