2WD VS AWD
What is better in the RC world, or what are the advantages of either
im just looking to have some fun with the car/truck, and probably going nitro
is there any major advantages of AWD? except for the fact that i believe you can make most of them 2wd if you want, and then turn back?
i mean... or does AWD completely > 2wd?
jus tinterested

Tons of factors.
2wd = lighter , less complicated , faster , freeier more efficient drivetrain , easier to work with , less grip , cheaper to maintain....also being lighter means it will also jump higher , good for racing.
4wd = more on power traction , faster out of corners , heavier , can take to slippery terrain, harder to work with , more money to maintain , good for bashing
But dont get me wrong they have 4wd buggy and 2wd competitions...they both haul.
Another thing with RWD is you can of course change direction with power. While 4wd on power will just come off turn.

Your not supposed to run r/c's in the grass. But yes they do work better in the grass.
The only grass you can run in is real flat...almost dead type grass. To where you can roll the buggy for a couple of feet on it. If you give it a push and it goes maybe a 1 foot...its too thick.

yea the awd does > the rwd in grass, but that doesn't necessarily make it better altogether... cauz i LOVE playin in loose small gravel / dirt with a RWD stadium truck.
but... for a high powered on road car, i recommend AWD. i have a slightly modded nitro 4tec and when i pulled the front driveshafts out (to make it RWD), the rear tires would spin at like 1/3 throttle, and they'd spin for days. i'd slowly throttle it up to speed, but any spike in power and the rear tires would break loose and i'd spin the car out
...so AWD does work great for onroad cars, especially fast ones like mike_sho's new toy
...but if you wanna go through grass, the monster trucks will do that all day long without a problem because their huge tires have less rolling resistance on grass than smaller stadium truck tires, and also they're geared way lower (being why their top speed is 45 mph or so) than the stadium trucks so the motor won't overheat going through grass like the ST trucks do.
it really depends on what kinda of r/c vehicle you're getting, and where you have to drive it. (i love both onroad and offroad, being why i have a couple r/c's, gotta love em.

Yeah also once you invest in a nice transmitter and you can transfer stuff to other cars. You get a few cause its just fun.
Yeah the R40 is sick. Which reminds me. I found a place in europe selling the r40 for $120. Thats like half the price you can find here in the US.
If anyone wants one , nows the time to get it cause its on sale.
Be sure to find a track or event you can race at. Cause these dont take to well to parking lots. They are meant for clean and prepped...totally dirt free tracks. With sugar water on it to further make sure nothing loose will go flying and enhance grip.
The car rolls so well it just takes off and wont stop.

Well for $120 its almost worth just making it a basher and see how it goes.
I would just raise it up as much as possible.

$120 just for a rolling chassis though, right?

well basically what im looking for is a recreational/hobby/fun weekend type of Nitro RC car, within... 350$
if mike decides to sell his i will most likely buy it, but the RWD was kinda a draw back of it since im not going professionaly
altho, "silvstyling" (sp?) does live like 20 mins away from me, a short drive and hes like a full on professionall
we'll see tho
for re-creational a truck is better then on road only right? i want to have some fun with it, and im in the subberbs so the good condition roads and the road amount is quite limited..

yea, if you just wanna fart around in your backyard... a stadium truck or monster truck is probably the most entertaining... since you can literally jump a ditch across your road, land the other side, tumble it a few times, land on your tires and take back off again without breaking stuff... whilst an onroad car can slide into a parked car tire doing 10mph and break an upper control arm, lower control arm, bend the driveshaft, snap the tie bar, crack the rim, and crack the lexan body. yea, that happened to me with my 4tec in a low speed accident... i didn't figure anything would have broken until i tried to drive off, lol. my stadium truck i had for 2 years and i only broke my tie bar once from a gnarly jump... and an onroad car is fun only for a little while if you have no-one else to race, etc.

i am a beginner nitro driver and when looking for a car this was the biggest hang up for me in choosing between the losi xxxnt and the hpi mt2.
i changed my mind last second to get the associated rc10gt which is essentially the same as the xxx-nt.
i was worried a lot about 2wd since im a recreational driver (suburbs, gravel alleys, parking lots, construction sites), but when i bought my truck i just bought the chunkiest rear tires possible. I tried the stock rear tires on some gravel paths and ya, the thing just spun hte tires full time. but when i put on my chunky tires it makes a huge difference, full throttle will still peel them out on gravel (which is useful/fun) but easing in it will fly no problem.
i recommend going 2wd because essentially it will be good enough for whatever recreational use you put it to. the 4wd is more to maintain and has more moving parts to break.
side note: on pavement my brother completely burnt out my stock tires on the second day, but with the chunky tires they have lasted 2 months so far with no signs of the tread wearing down. although, i still put the old tires on now and then for some drift practice in the parking lots .
all in all, i am very satisfied with my rc10gt, i have no complaints whatsoever about the 2wd. i hope this helps your decision, and you will absolutely love having a nitro

How much is it going to cost you. I wouldnt reccomend it, but some say they like them, but usually thats people who havent driven some of the top cars out there.
I would look at finding like an hpi rs4-3, good handling car and you can probably find one for the same price. Check ebay.

I remember when I had my old rs-4, the original one. I broke the rear belt, which happened a shit load on those moddels I guess. I was fwd for 3 months. That was really boring to drive. Rwd on that was impossible to drive unless you barely got on it. I personally recommend AWD espically if you plan on getting a on road nitro car.
On a side note, Im waiting till I can afford the new Hpi rs-4 18ss. Love that thing, comes with the gallardo body. Gonna be sweet.
