Maintenance and Winter Prep.

Well it's november now and the first snowfall has come, what do you guys do to store your cars over the winter? (if you store them). Any special steps to take?

also, my starter chord box seems to have just come loose, i think the threads on the engine might even be stripped so i can't put new screws in... what should i do about this?

Clean with denatured alcohol and spray all metal with wd-40. Take apart the motor and let the internals sit in marvel mystery oil. (or just take the glow-plug off , put in a few drops of marvel and let sit open)

Place all rubber wheels and tires in plastic zpi lock bags...to help preserve them. I also treat my rubber with marvel mystery oil , helps bring back the traction and life of the tire.

Set the chassis with no load on the suspension on a stand of some sort or just get an rc stand.

Halfway charge rechargable batteries.

Fuel will be pretty much useless come summer. So try to use that before its bad....throw that away.

Also just a great time to take the car apart and work on it / rebuild the shocks (good cleansing and fresh silicone oil) , rebuild diffs and clean any parts possible.

I also work on my cars bearings or look for a new cheap set to replace yours if they are too scratchy for saving.

cool, thanks again mike. I'm guessing i can get all this stuff at my local hobby shop? I don't know if I'm knowledgeable enough to rebuild my own motor yet though. Do you mean take the plug out, put the oil in, and just let it sit without the plug all winter?

Denatured alcohol can be bought at lowes / home depot. Clean it real well.

Then apply wd-40 , any grocery store , hardware , target type stores has this.

Yeah take out the plug and let it sit. This will let any moisture out.

Also never let your truck sit on its wheels or suspension , this will put flat spots in your tires and make it wobble , handle bad and shake the car more. Always set it on a stand on its chassis , or take the wheels off at least. But they should be in a bag anyways , but for further use make sure its never sitting on them.

This goes for any rc car.
