okay great story here. i JUST picked up my car today from this engine swap today. (about an HR and half way, its relievent to the story)
i just got a b20b vtec swap. the bottom end is supposed to be built, jdm b16 head with b16 tranny. chipped p28 ecu.
i drove the car 55 miles home and it was fine. was pulling strong and everything..
cars on my driveway and i was reving the car to about 7 or 8k then bam my check engine light comes on, and i see white smoke coming from my engine bay and now my car wont start...
i called the place they said to take out my battery cable and then hook it back up, no go. now theyre telling me to find out what code is being thrown..
does anyone have any suggestions what happened? now the car cranks but doesnt TURN OVER.. i hear it. and when im holding the key for a few second then the check engine light comes on agian. im pretty annoyed with my car...

wow, you just got your car back from the shop and you were revving it that high? you ever heard of break in period? well white smoke is usually a coolant leak so have you notice any leaks? well hope you did'nt crack the cylinder walls. and what do you mean, you think the bottom was built? what did you pay for? anyways, provide more info and see if you can get that code.

The correct break in or any motor should only last a few mins...
IF the car is tuned correctly a few pulls from idle to redline and some hwy crusing will break the car in , in a matter of minutes..
As for white smoke ? Check for leaks.. anything of that nature..
is it from the bay or the exhaust..if its the exhaust "waves" to the HG..
or crack cyl.

they already told me that the car was pretty much broken in. that they drove it around alot for me and all i needed to do was an oil change in 300 miles..
the smoke came from the engine pay. i dont see any leaks on the floor.
i have no CLUE what to do. i think im goin to take it to another mechanic. actually tow it there and have them check it out... after this car im out of the honda scene....
how do you check if you gettin a spark or not? just take out the spark plug and hook it up to the wire and try cranking??? i hear the fuel drop in but now im thinking im not gettin gettin a spark...

i asked them a few times they said the bottom end is getting new pistons and rods so its built. im sure they did that
as for whats wrong i think i hit the rev limiter.. im going to take it to some place and have them run the code for me and see what its throwing... that shop told me it could be a blown sensor.

i always thought there was more to the break in period then that. idk, but if it were me i'd still take it easy for at least the first 300 miles or so. so desii all you know of is they changed the pistons and rods? the reason i ask is that the b20's have thin cylinder walls due to its bore. its pretty much a bored out b18. the only safe way to rev that high with a b20 is if it was sleeved to protect cracking. well i hope its not the case bro. also before going to another mechanic, you should go back to the ones who built it to see what they can do for you before payin someone else to fix someone elses fuck up. well man, hope things turn out right for you and dont let this ruin your experience with hondas.
this is my second honda and 4th time gettin towed.. im over it.. for now atlesat.
the reason i cant bring it to the other place yet is theyre 60 miles away. i dont want to tow it that far. i just towed it to the place next to my house and am having them check it out right now..
all i know is if its a problem with the engine its self i wont let that shop fuck me over. word of mouth, better busniess beuro, im prepared for the worst.
i hope its just a senor that popped out or what not.. ill let you guys know. thanks..
it was the ignition coil on my car. the guy said they go bad wasnt beacuse i over reved the car or anything... so yup thanks for the help you guys. im taking it easy on my car its funny it doesnt feel anything like my stock d16.. pretty bumpy and the new clutch needs time to get used too
any suggestions on how to *break* in the new clutch? i liked how my old one was, wasnt soo sticky and caught kinda far up.. lmk thanks!

Change your ignitor when you get a chance that will go out next.

damn, thats some good news if you can call it that. lol. good thing its that instead of the engine. its funny because i would of eventually guessed that was the problem if i wasnt thinking so much on the fact that it was a newly built motor.lol. well man, enjoy!
I agree with him on the not taking it back to the same shop. If my car was damaged pretty bad because of recent work done to it, I would not take it back to the same shop that fucked it up to have them fix it. I'd just take it to a different shop, explain the situation, usually the other shop can prove that the original shop did fuck up, so therefore the original shop most likely will be liable for whatever cost... but I don't know, that's how I see it as happening.
