buy new or rebuild my own engine
Im geting a 1988 CRX hf here soon an was wondering which would be smarter, buy a b18A from a 90-93 intergra or to just completly rebuild the the stock motor I get with the car
Real question which would give me more power and preformance with the least amount of money basically
Sorry if anything is wrong im still very new to this, any and all tips/advice/info would be great thanks
I presume you're going of an NA setup since ya posted in this forum....
unless ya got some of that JDM kick in your CRX the killa B is the sh*t
turbo could potentially make you happy too...if you wan't to sacrifice the NA-ness
by the way what's ur budget? what state do you live in (emissions laws)??
This is a really general question bro; you should check the CRX/Civic forums for FAQ's too.........
In all honesty, any motor you get to put in that chassis needs to be rebuilt. You are considering a motor from a 90-93 integra. That is nearly 20yrs old
I wouldn't rebuild the stocker. I would probably look for a b18 and rebuild it. That is assuming it is in your budget.
Mods: All stock, for now. Hooked up the stereo though.
Youve basicaly got the slowest motor honda makes for their cars- what is it, 65hp?? Even dropping in another D16 would be a HUGE improvement. May I recommend a D16y8 or a D16z6? Both of these will drop right in, it couldnt be any simpler. The only tough part is wiring up VTEC. But with a B-Series, you need to swap the axles, transmission, wiring harness, mounts, shift linkage, the list goes on. Dropping in a more powerful d-series is a MUCH easier swap, as well as MUCH cheaper. Rarely do I suggest a D-Series to someone, but in my opinion, it seems like the best choice for this scenario. Roughly double the horsepower for about $400...

for that matter, you could get a dohc zc engine for less than $1000, if you just really want a dohc, and if i remember correctly, the zc was basically the same as the d-series, so it should directly bolt in as well. also, no vtec wiring... (d15b is $100 less, same power, but you get to wire for vtec) http://www.hmotorsonline.com/shop/sc...age&item=30022

Unfortunatly, theres hardly and aftermarket support for the DOHC ZC.
