1998 Acura Integra LS B18B1
I just rebuilt my engine and fired it up tonight for the first time. It seems to idle fine and I have good oil pressure 60 psi at 2000 rpm. The problem I am having is that when you open it up there is a lot of delay before the engine revs. What could be causing this?
what have you checked? Since you said the engine is newly rebuilt there are a number of things that could be wrong. I would check you ignition timing with a gun since its easy. Sounds like that might be a problem. That or fuel? But since this is a fresh rebuild it could be a couple of things.

I checked the TPS and could not get it adjusted within spec, so I ordered a new one (omni power) and should have it this week to see if that might be the problem. It was replaced about 100,000 miles ago with a junk yard one and was not sure of the condition of it back then. I did check the timing but not sure if it is set right. I may have to look into that also, I may be one tooth off on the cam, not exactly sure how to set timing on this engine, I will have to read up on it. I really want this engine to work, since it is my first build ever
well as long as the cam and crank are synced right.... then you get the engine up to running temperature, jumper the service connector(somewhat optional) and use the gun to check timing, adjust by turning the distributor. Does the car rev above 2k rpm, sputter at idle or anything like that? Is it just WOT that you have a problem with or does it drive fine on the street except for under hard acceleration?

grounded wires. Check TPS (could even be TPS itself), ECM, etc..

M.Y. C.R.X. W.I.N.S.-Man, You Cant Really Xplain Why Its Not Slow!!
The main problem that I am having is the delay. The engine seems to run ok at idle its just when you open it up (punch the throttle) it slowly ramps up. I did get the pistons mixed up when I tore the engine down and put them back in anyways in probably the wrong cylinders (not knowing which goes in which) This could account for some of the vibration I am getting at higher RPM's but seems to do fine other then the slow ramp up delay at the higher rpms.
Well I replaced the TPS but I doubt it was that, instead it turned out that I was one tooth off on the cam pulleys, I did not see the two marks on the cam pulley that needed to be aligned, so the timing was out. The big giveaway was when I advanced the timing and checked it with a timing light it advanced way past TDC and could not retard it back to the red mark where it needed to be.
