How to Build up a Reliable B20B Block?

Hi all,

Im looking to build up a B20B block with either a B16a Head or a B18C5.

I know you guys recomend LS/Vtec conversions but the LS block is not available here.

How do i build up the block to sustain daily driving up to 8,500rpm? I will be using Forged Pistons, Eagle Rods, Crank Girdle, is there anything else? Can anyone explain a block gaurd to me? Do i need one?

The rest of the package will be something along the lines of ITR cams, Apexi Power FC, 310cc injectors, usual cam gears/intake/exhaust and im not forgetting about the Tranny! I know how important this is.

Really appreciate this.

Are there any specialist sites? i see crvtec is gone.

full balancing of the bottom end. no need for the blockguard. sleeving would be a better idea, but more expensive. a buddy of mine is building a b20vtec similar to your's and he's planning on taking it 9k.

i believe the b20 blocks come w 84mm bore from factory so just getting a strong bottom end and a nice head will give you some decent power. get a strong valvetrain. the block guard will help w vibration from the block. Spoon uses them in their blocks when taking the rpms to like 9-10k.

Be interesting to know how much that 4 door weighs.

The best thing to do, if you can afford it, is to bore out the b20 block to 86mm and sleeve it. Put some wiseco pistons, a gsr/type r crank, and gsr/type r rods.
Youll have a 2.03l engine (which is actually slightly larger in displacement than the 89mm crank and 84mm bore) with a ton of torque, minimal cylinder sidewall loading, and youll have slower piston speeds allowing to rev a little higher for some nice HP numbers.

an 85mm bore would be the biggest i would go on a daily driven engine. if you do an 86mm bore and something goes kaboom and the cylinders need to be repaired, you'll have to resleeve again instead of just overboring.

4 door is fully gutted no pannels no seats but the driver seat. now with his ls/vtec when he revs his motor up to 9k his clutch wont engage. he has problems going into gears at such high rpm . but he has an act street clutch which aint gonna do much with all that power hes putting out

Spoonhatch2001 has a little shameless behaviour in the past
i just got done like a month ago building my crvtec. i used a golden eagle block gaurd and there ls/crv vtec conveerison kit.i used a b16A (jdm) head because its a higher flowing head than the GSR head if you done have money to port and polish head. forged pistons high compression 11.5:1. balanced the bottom end with the flywheel on(jun flywheel) and i use a b20b(jdm) bottom end. micro polished crank. gsr rod and thrust bearings(for better oil flow through the crank and reduced friction for more power and easier revs). stock rods(rods only break on forced induction cars). the best action clutch available. b16a(jdm) trans with spoon 1.5way lsd. and much more but wont go any further with my build just an idea. i spen like 6 to 7 grand on the motor and tranny setup that included all the extra aftermarket parts i boughtlike samco hoses skunk2 intake manifold etc. i ran high high 12s and low 13s on street tires.
