K20 is a good motor, ill give it that.
R18 is a good motor, ill give it that.
Both are great engines, im just stating that the K20 isnt all that far away from the R18 powerwise, Yes...The FG2 has the goodies such as 6-Spd trans, LSD, moonroof, spoiler, etc... so you get alot in the package when
deciding on that model. Its also approx 200lb heavier, some argue its nothing to worry about but if you could drop that weight makes a difference at the 1/4mi.,.....hell....even at the circuit would make a difference overall.
but the reason this threads gone as long as it has, is cuz of the comments towards an R18A1.
It has power like a Type-R and Torque like a RS i believe for which in a so-called ecomony motor.....come on, thats good shit!
Now the AT model is not a good candidate to use as a boosted engine as the transmission apparently cannot handle really much more power then the civic can put out, however the gear ratio on a MT model R18A1 is a pretty good setup for boosting.
K20 gear ratio has an awesome setup for N/A i think over boosting but any car can get boosted almost if you have the coin to do it.
im just sick of the negativity towrds R18A1 in general, MY friend has the Si and i like it, great car so what?
to each thier own.

so in stock form your comparing motors yet you want to see about squeezing more hp, which is it?
The K20 responds 3948458954598 more better then any other honda motor ever will to just BOLT ONS. Put a set of cams in the car and i wouldn't doubt you'd see up to a 30whp gain..seriously The k20 response to bolt ons is increaible and for you to compare the k20 to a eco downy motor like the r18 is ghetto, wanna do a comparsion? d17 vs r18 or how about d16z6 vs the r18 100 bucks says a stock d16 makes more overall power then a r18
and..to be perfectly honest your comparing apples to oranges.. r series is completely centered around eco and daily driven hard times, not making power..k20 is there to make power its honda/acura's version of a sports car motor.. why do you think 10000000 of people bored 1.8 b18c's out to 84mm or 85mm with a 89 or 95mm stroke? to still be called a 1.8? Neg they made them a 2.0, why do a b20vtec? you want a 2.0 Torque makes power nimrod, not power makes torque. the longer the stroke the more torque = more power, the more cyl pressure the more whp you will make..

there is no mellow attitude, i'm not beating around the bush nor trying to impress you, i'm laying the facts down. I do this for a side business, i dont steer people in the wrong direction, your goin down the wrong path.

i dont expect you to BS nor lie, im just glad you didnt cuss like before that all im sayin'
as for the civic, whenever i get a chance ill do a Dyno to get the numbers cuz i dont even wanna try and do a butt-dyno, thats just retarded!
then after a s/c ill do the same thing and get another dyno to see the real results at the end of the day, however...
i still feel this R18A1 definetly has potential for power eitherway, with the mild mods ive done this car does move pretty good, ill give it that much!
anyhow, ill leave it as is right now until i get a Vid & a Dyno done k.

good idea, get a base, then just bolt the s/c on and dyno, and get a base, then tune it and see how it feels..show the gains from just a bolton/tune sc.

sorry man!
one last thing...
You spoke of how the longer the Stroke the more TQ right?
so on this R18A1 the Bore/Stroke shown above with 81 x 87.3
The 87.3 makes it longer the the bore, so is this a good thing?
im asking this cuz if you are good with this shit id like to know for myself.
thanks./

Because the R18 is a common motor. There is money to be made by selling performance parts for common motors. A S/C is a good way to make a stock car a little sportier without sacrificing daily driven reliability.

Your right, i was the 1st to do that but...
for one i assumed this was where the topic was heading towards, and from previous exp. from others (maybe not on SHO) but others have done nothing but slam R18A1's all for the reason they had a K20 in the first place.
anyhow...

k i think it went like this...
B18C1 or B18C5 had ratings of TQ for the TYPE-R
between 128-130lb-ft tq
and then for horsepower went like this...
RS
B18B1 at 142Hp
So...yea , the R18 still aint bad if your looking at it as a Econo-car!

The stroke is what creates cyl pressure and torque needed to turn the motor therefore make power, a 87.3 stroke is better then a 87mm stroke but .3 isn't goin to add abunch of whp or wtq. you need to do something better , a 89mm or even 90+mm stroke is where the power is at, 81mm bore is good for the upper 220whp, i should know
but once u get there, your pretty much reaching the limits.
