ls rod rev limit?

What would be the highest any of you ls/vtec people would rev stock ls rods?
I'm planning on ctr pistons on a stock ls rod if i can just to save alittle money. Would I be better off just going aftermarket or what?

My desired setup is this;
ls rods
ctr pistons
supertech valvetrain
ctr or itr cams
and the other basic bolt ons with a tough clutch

what do you think this would make? i'm hoping 175-185hp and 130-140tq

u wont save money that way , eagle rods are like only $380.00 or something , u will get some peace of mind reving eagle rods stock one's will do but the question is how long there's a reason why stock ls redline is 6800 rpm ...just a thought

how much u gonna pay for ctr pistons and rings anyway??

stock rev limit may be 6800 but it isn't due to weak rods. Only real reason to upgrade is if you can find significantly *LIGHTER* rods such as the crower n/a rods. However ARP rod bolts are always a plus.

About 600-700 a set... something like that... my point was that unless the eagles are *SIGNIFICANTLY* lighter, then they aren't worth the trouble unless they plan to push enough power to justify them.

Now to mix it up... What about stock rods with a balanced rotating assembly and a block guard? (ignoring cooling issues)

If I'm not mistaken LS (or other "long stroking" honda) blocks have problems with side loading at high rpms.

Why is the block guard needed? The author is shooting for less than 200whp...

Correct. However this is due to the r/s ratio. The only way to address this is with a different crank with a shorter stroke, or a longer rod.

Thereby defeating the purpose of a LS/VTEC...

Ok, so what I was saying is if he wants to rev it, then he will have issues with side loading, which is why I suggested a block guard, to help reduce cylinder walk, in conjunction with a balanced rotating assembly... Am I wrong in suggesting this?

Also, how do you balance honda rods? Chevy V8 rods have balancing tabs on them that you can grind down to balance them, but I'm not sure what to do with a honda...

I just noticed something... Do you realize how high your c/r will be with CTR pistons?

supposedly 12.4:1 but with a thicker head gasket it'll lower it and maybe a little grinding out of the combustion chamber

It couldn't hurt, but I don't know that I've ever heard of anyone having these type of issues in a streetable n/a setup. If he was going turbo, then that would be a different story. Also depends on how high he is trying to rev it.
