LS/VTEC "B18B1 Block / B16A2 Head"

Hello every one, for all the proud owners of their LS/VTEC what Valve Clearance did you all use with your set up while the engine is cold? Please let me know both Intake & Exhaust sides. Thanks

Why do you say factory is to tight? 7 to 9 thousands cold would possably be 6 to 8 hot when the metal has expanded. I could be wrong though.

yeah but helms specs are also supposed to be set when the car is cold.

reason i say they are too tight is when i do my lash to oem i loose idle vacuum. then again i should add i have crower 2's.

I just built my head and short block again and for some reason I have a slight tap in the head. The Intake side is .006 and the Exhaust side it .007 I am not sure why it would tap. I do have ITR Lost Motion Devices with stock B16A rocker arms so I was thinking that the clearance of the Largest Lobe was not sufficent enough causing a tap. Can I get some feedback on that?

wait i dont understand, do you think the lma is binding or do you think the rocker is hitting the retainer? you would need one big ass cam to do that.

i dont think valve closure has anything to do with your ticking, even with very loose tolerances i have never noticed a clicking. im talking about .009-.010. its probably the cams profile i would imagine. cams with faster closing events tend to be a little noisy from the valves "slamming shut", i use that term kinda loose too. every b series i have ever seen and heard ticked anyway unless you think it is something abnormal.

For some reason I think the largest lobe it what is making the tick/tap sound due to contact with the rocker arm from too much clearance gap wise. Once it VTEC's and the rockers lock it sounds fine. Everything in my engine in forged, do you think the valve seating could be making the noise every time the valves close. I have Skunk2 Springs so the rates probably slap the valves right back in place. I just don't like the sound, its not too too loud. Just want to know what it is. Thanks for all your feedback.
