pct's in a b16a block (search failed)

hello everyone.
im doing a b16a all motor build.
i was asking for suggestions on what type of pistons i should drop in my block.
i was suggested the b16b pct pistons.
i read somewhere (school me if im wrong) that you HAVE to shave the top of the pistons on certain areas on the pcts to fit them or prevent piston to valve issues or something like that.
and then to mill 1mm off each side of the b16a rods to fit them snug on pct pistons.
can some one give me all the info .
on how to PROPERLY get these demons installed on my b16a rods.
is it worth it or should i go p30's or itr's
any input is greatly appreciated!!
thanks

P30's will only raise you like .2 c/r, and ITR pistons you will probably lose compression or at least have no gain. So not really worth the effort for either of those. Go with the CTR ones. I would suggest aftermarket ones, they are way cheaper and may not need to go through all those rod mods since they are more universal than factory ones are intended to be.

all those rod mods?
meaning its more than just the 1mm off the both sides of the rod by the piston?

where would i find aftermarket pct's

No I don't know that there is anything other than milling the rods I was just using a figure of speech.
You can find them on Ebay, here's one link, but if you change up your search using different words you will get alot of stuff. Civic Type R, PCT, CTR, B16B, B16, etc...

neat!.
thanks.
to the best of your knowledge would you know if i would have piston to valve issues?
i dont want to drop these pistons in and come to find out that clearances for these pistons are zero to none.
u get what im saying?
well here. check this out.
i want to get my head milled just to make it flat. not to raise compression.
then i want to install flat face valves to further increase compression.
and most likely use an oem head gasket.
do you think i would have any issues with this setup?
b16a block and pr3 head.

I don't think there will be any issues. Compression height is slightly lower in a B16 compared to other B-series, That's why these same pistons make preposterous high compression in LS/V and other 1.8 liter setups. Flat face valves won't contribute to any interference. When you're choosing a cam that's when you decide what you can do as far as lift/duration. What are you thinking of using?

I have also heard the Rocket M21X is real nice for B16. What are specs on the other 2 you mentioned, you don't want to go too large with the 1.6 since I guess it just doesn't demand enough air to utilize the real big boys. Isn't the BC3 smaller than the S2S2? I thought the BC4 was more comparable...

Hmm...394 degrees on the exhuast! I thought there was only 360 degrees the cam could turn...j/k, capitalizing on your type-O.

It seems evident the degree measurements are not done the same way. The BC cams are most likely "advertised duration", while the S2 are measured as "duration @ .05 lift" or some such number which is how much duration is remaining after the valve has already opened to a certain point. Advertised is always higher by quite a bit but the 2 numbers I think help indicate the ramp rate.

lol
so what do you think.
s2s2's pro series.?
with s2 intake mani.
itr header
valvetrain upgrage
with flat faced valves.
port matched tb. maybe 62-65 mm?
pct's myabe a slight over bore, no more than factory maximum over bore specs if there is any? (i have to research that)
freshened up block with most likely oem bearings.
b16 tranny
with a lighter flywheel
centerforce dual friction clutch

hows that sound for a daily street/strip/ auto X.
of course with auto X i need to focus on suspension . but hows the power plant sound.
with a good tune of course!

I wouldn't suggest anything more than Pro1, but that might be a bit much too I don't know for sure. You're probably fine with S2S2 which is not the Pro series. A 65mm t/b would be the maximum size I'd go. In fact that's what I got for mine but I don't have the swap installed yet so can't say how it will perform. Got a great deal on it though $140 shipped new. I just blended out the throat on it for better flow on the inlet side. It's from Performance Products, they work with AEBS to develop stuff, I also got their intake manifold. Great stuff on a budget but if you can afford it the S2 will probably do better for peak hp on the top end and is better looking. T/B should always be port-matched, especially if the opening in the i/m is smaller than the t/b.

Everything sounds good, with the right parts selection, proper installation and tuning you will make nice power and have a blast.

I would suggest the PCT's. You shouldn't have any clearance issues with P2V as long as your head has not been milled too much. If you're gonna build it, you should look into claying the motor for clearances though just to be on the safe side.

I'd also recommend that you consider looking into the BC4's with the BC valvesprings and Ti retrainers if you have considered the S2S2 and the BC3+.

The Centerforce DF clutches are nice, but kinda pricey. I've personally been very happy with my Exedy clutch myself.

When you are ready to get the most out of your setup, consider upgrading to a 4.785 FD in your tranny. My friend had one of those in his B16A setup before and it was pretty fun to drive. He had a B16A with S2S2 cams, SMSP header, Spoon throttle body, STOCK B16 intake manifold, Hondata S100, and it was putting down 170 whp & 110 lb-ft on Prostreet's dyno.

Hardly a beast, but in a stripped 96 DX coupe with Tein FLEX suspension, it was a very fun ride. Good luck with your project.

Hi people.

I currently have a fight in my head.

My right part of the brain is saying put the CTR pistons.
The left one its not. lol

What should i do?

I have an Honda Civic Coupe 1997 (EJ8) that had a D16Y8.

I've already buyed the following stuff for the Swap:

- B16A2 Motor from a 2000 ek4

- Gearbox Y21 (vti 92-95) this one its shorter i think.

- Tranny mounts

- I am missing the motor mounts i think... i only need the rear mount

- I've buyed PCT Piston KIT 81mm (EK9) on ebay. See the link bellow
- eBay Motors: JDM B16B Civic Type R Integra Pistons Rings Bearings (item 180283293692 end time Sep-05-08 12:05:30 PDT)

- I have an ITR flywheel (its 3kg less than vti)

- I have DC-Sports 4-1

- I have ITR motor Oil pump

- I have ITR dual springs

- I have OBD2 to obd1 conversion cables

- i Have a modded P30

- I have a fuel pressure regulated to 3 Bar and the Chip its already calibrated for it

I pretty much have everything. Even the chip its already from a friend that had this setup.

But... im a daily driver. I dont Drag or do streetrace.
I just have some fun when comming back from my girls house.

But im building a reliable stuff. Please help me. Should i go with this setup? Or should i just do the same setup but with stock pistons?

Im not making above 8500rpm. Also my friends are saying that the motor should only die if push it too much for a big period of time in 5th gear.

Anyway.. i just want a reliable stuff my D serie was for 7 years. Can this be realible setup?

What precautions to take?

Thanks a lot
