hmmmm.........im pretty sure last time i checked, me and SEVERAL other pepole are revving LS bottom ends to 9000+ rpm (not to metion they have a less than desirable rod/ stroke ratio).....lets not forget that a gsr motor also has girdle, i would definatly feel safe raising it to 8700...or like everyone else said, get a b16 tranny, i just blew the diff out in mine, and i never fell out of vtec with it, now im runnin a gsr tranny and i always fall out between 1st and 2nd unless i cant get traction ( vtec is at 6600)

i've had h22 buddies revving their stock bottom end to 9k. Its not so much the bottom end you have to worry about. Valvespring breaking or valve float would likely be the first to go. But with upgraded valvesprings, it can rev MUCH higher than what people traditionally rev to.

dont get sand in your pussy..
raise it to 9k and call it a day...i hate gsr tranny i want a b16 tranny or itr/ctr but i dont have that kind of money..
trust me , it wont hurt anything at all.. those cams need to be spun up there anyway to keep your in your peak when you shift from redline dont go to 8700, go 9k or dont go up at all. i spin my stock itr motor to who knows how high.. and its been by my side for almost 4 years.. go big or go home.

ls crank doesn't make a bit of difference and neither does the rods, stick some GE rod bolts or arp rod bolts and acll it a day.. it isn't hard.

Mods: All stock, for now. Hooked up the stereo though.
I talked to my tuner. He said the highest he'd feel comfortable raising the redline to (while keeping reliability in mind) is 8700rpm on stock GSR rods. He set it at 8500rpm last time because I wasnt making any power past that, but with my new header and some camgear tuning, I should be able to utilize the extra 200rpm, and keep it in vtec between shifts. Ive got a retune appt set for the 7th, so we'll see how it goes.

For the bottom end, I recomend aftermarket rod bolts too. After that all you gotta worry about is watching your bearings.(not even all that expensive if they go, just a pita) Ask him to lower the vtec like 150 rpm and see if the graph looks like it lost any significant power.
