a good tuner can tune around vtec. valve overlap is bad for boost which vtec does, but the vtec head outflows the non-vtec head. just get a turbo to compliment the motor and a good tune and he'll run 12's all day at low boost if he has proper tires and suspension.

judging from the question he sounds like he would probably be better off non vtec w/a cam job though unless he had someone else tune it for him also aftermarket sleeves, connecting rods, pistons, and blockguards. would be a good idea to make your car more reliable.

if he already has a vtec motor it's not worth trashing it. but for his power goals. a b18b would suffice. they are torque little motors with boost. and they wouldn't be as peaky in boost. i wouldn't even rip into the motor untill i wanted more than 300whp. but stock cams are fine for power. i don't recommend turbo cams unless you are real serious about your build. but judging by his lack of knowledge, i would suggest a journal bearing turbo over a ball bearing turbo.

that's just stupidity. i would never run more than 8 lbs on any turbo with a b16. properly tuned you can pull 270whp easily at low boost levels. being stupid is a nice way to ventilate your block hehe.

So a t3/t4 is a bad idea?

depends on the trim. get a smaller a/r. alot of people get a huge trim that doesn't even hit until way up top. my boy's si makes 260whp at lik 7 psi, but it doesn't spool till 5 grand
