87 Si, won't start, was fine.

87 Si, 217K miles, fuel inj/elec ignition.
Was running perfectly on a hot day. went down block
turned off, tried to restart 10 min later, nothing. cranks &
cranks & cranks.

New plugs, spark seems fine on all 4 (held plug to car groudn with
plugwire attached, got spark), has compression (155 all cyl), resoldered
main relay & tested per crappy chilton's manual, is ok. no pGMFI/Engine
light coming on, saw no engined fuses underhood, all fuses underdash
just fine, no lights blinking on ECU, fuel pump whirrs, got the right amount of
fuel when disconnect return line & filled bottle for 10 sec. I'm assuming
its fuel related somehow?? Look visually @ timing belt, seems just fine, fiddled
with timing by moving distributor back & forth. checked rotor & cap, seems ok. I removed the distributor, & it seems ok.

Any suggestions? I cranked engined & removed plug, not sure if plug is wet
enuf or what the #%!?? I dunno, hate to go replacing distributor, ignitor & lots of other crap, w/o knowing what's wrong. Don't have a friend that has the same car either.
Thanks if anyone has suggestions on what to try.

First do you have a manual? If so have you tried to "bump start" your vehicle? I should hope that you know what I'm talking about, but in the event that you do not (which by your previous post the amount of knowledge of cars was evident so I do not think you need this explained, but in the event you haven't heard of this I'll go into it) a "bump start" is simply getting your vehicle to a roll in neutral then shifting into first and "dumping" or releasing the clutch....

Second, have you tried checking your fuel filter? It could be a clog in the filter. In order to check this you would simply remove the fuel line going from the filter to the engine, and turn your key to start the fuel pump. If fuel comes out the filter is good, if not then it is clogged and needs replaced.

Third, you had mentioned some thing about the ECU in your post. So I take it that you have the led for any flashing or error codes..If not you may want to do this. Also you could unhook your battery for a short time period and reset the ECU which may also fix your problem.

Hopefully I have been of some help, if not well I'm sorry I couldn't help you further....I also hope that you get this problem resolved.
