I dont know much about cars. im trying to learn as much as i can while i build my 90 crx. my engine just blew its head gasket and i have water in my no. 2 cylinder. a couple friends tell me thats pretty much it for my engine, so im looking for a new one. now, im trying to build my car in a specific direction. i love driving mountain roads so i know i need alot of work in my suspension, but i dont really know what to go for as far as power. i want to go fast obviously, and maybe even drag a little, but i dont want be overpowered and careen off of a cliff because that would be bad. So, i have about 1500 bucks, maybe a little more soon, does anyone wanna suggest a motor i could drop in this thing that might fit the bill? also i looking for a retailer or a discount parts store in so cal to get it from. help?
focus on building the car, then build an engine that fits it, not the other way around.
For 1500, the best you could realistically do would be a b18a1, and it doesn't offer enough gains over the d16a6 to be worth the extra cost.

this guy has class!!! lmfao. i do agree with him however. a better question would be, "is this your only car?". if so, just go ahead and put the
a6 in there for right now and start saving. if not however, you have a unique opportunity. put the 1500 straight into your suspension. full shock/spring setup, bigger swaybars, lca's, and since you wanna carve some mountain, upgrade your brakes while your down there

ufortunately this is my only car. so im trying to find an engine i can put in it for now, and the peace of mind that accompanies it. then im am building the car around the engine but id rather not buy two engine. so if i put the engine that i am in fact going to build down the line, i figure i save myself time and effort?
Trust me when I say that trying to build a car that you depend on as a daily driver is almost impossible without sectioning it off a bit. Two engines is the way to go, especially when they're as inexpensive as they are. Get a d16a6, drop it in, and decide on the engine you actually want to build. Build that while it's on a stand, then drop it in.
